The Bertolina had been recommended to us, and it was a good experience. The hotel is in the traditional Portuguese style, and the thing that strikes you from the outset is how spotless everything is - dining room, bedroom, terrace, swimming pool etc.
The location is grand - lots of options on which way to walk into town. Our room was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked a treat. There was a raucous noise rising from the main square until 4.00 a.m. - what happened to the bye-laws that prohibited outside music after midnight? However, after one sleepless night, we adjusted, and did not notice it.
The staff were extremely obliging, friendly and fun. We'd recommend it - but perhaps bring earplugs.

The breakfast was odd to say the least. A plate full of odd bacon and eggs was not what I wantd every day.
The location was the big killer of this hotel. It is situated on top of the old square. I thought this would be a good thing. I did not sleep all week. Nightclub noise was unbearable until 4 AM every day. I was then awoken at 8 AM every day by breakfast going on in the room above me. I have never needed a holiday after coming home off a holiday but believe me I did.
If you want a wild holiday then stay here. If you however value you relax time and would like a choice of when to go to bed or get up NEVER stay here!!!
