We stayed9lighthouse) at the Castell Playa and were pleasantly surprised to find the rooms have been refurbished to include a whirlpool bath which we used nearly every night. The seaview is stunning - you could not wish for a better view. The hotel is located high on a hill and there are many steps to the beach but there is a courtesy bus which runs from the hotel regularly for the less mobile. The food was excellent but if you fancy a hight out we recommend the 'Good Bridge Cafe'. The entertainment was aimed at the over 50's who seemed to enjoy it immensly but it wasn't our cup of tea. We hired a car for 4 days which was very reasonable from Europcar - this is a must go and see Son Bou beach, Santa Thomas beach, Citadella, Cap Favourix (Lighthouse)and El Toro (mountain).

Absolutely beautiful hotel which has just been refurbished, the rooms were lovely, whirlpool bath and beautifully fitted. The hotel was spotlessly clean, very polite staff and set in a beautiful location. Lovely swimming pool (a bit cold) and a jacuzzi. Plenty of sunbeds, but possibly not enough in high season and unfortunately people putting out their towels, there really is no need for this, we always got a sunbed and a parasol without any problem. There is a lifeguard always walking around and if you needed a parasol he would go and get one.

hotel always clean but decor a bit old food good plenty to choose from we were half board hotel was up loads of steps or up a steep road but you could use mini bus staff all very helpfull entertainment was brill 2 groups 2 comedians and accrobats the beach and the resort were fantastic the only let down we found was all the people in the hotel were up early to reserve there sun loungers at least the germans have learned us some thing

The Castell Playa was one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in.
It was spotlessly clean and the food was the best Ive ever experienced in hotels. I am a vegetarian and there was such a great choice, and really tasty, and the chefs would cook me a pasta dish if requested. The rest of my party were big meat eaters and all loved the choice of food.
The staff were lovely and friendly and the entertainment we saw was great. It was so nice not to have children running about the place and taking over the pool.

Dont be put off with it being steep to the hotel its well worth a stay. food very good masses of chiose all high quality. rooms preety good, staff very professional and friendy. day and evening entertainment to a very good standard,beautifull views from beach side rooms.do buy in the drinks package fron reception at 14 euros a day per person its a good deal 10am to midnight.agreat place to relax and rewind no crowds or children we really enoyed our stay

this hotel shows it age,in need of refurbishment. 3*almost not a 4t as thomsons advise. thomsons hosts very good overal entertainment good. food to a good standard. sun beds are in poor condition dirty. waiters and maid service of a very high standard.

The Castell Playa is a very large hotel, which dominates the sky line of Arenal D'en castell.
It was built in the 70's and is showing its age in places. However it is a very good hotel and nothing was too much trouble for the waiters or maids.
There were no strange smells around the hotel as reported by some reviewers.
The drinks package was very good and saved us a fortune as drinks are expensive in the hotel.
Do book a sea view room as they are quite cheap and have a fabulous view of the sea and the resort.
The pool area was adequate for the number of people stopping in the hotel but you had to get a sunbed by 9.00am if you wanted a good spot.

Lovely hotel which we booked last minute.
The staff were very helpful and always smiling.
Food was lovely, lots to choose from and the all inclusive drinks package was well worth it.
One thing we did not no about till we got there was evening meal, men had to were trousers and everyone was dressed up. Whcih we read nothing about before we went, so did not take a lot of evening wear, but maneged it ok, so take enough clothes for day wear and evening wear.
Apart from that great holiday and would defiantly go back again.

The hotel is dated ,but very clean.
My husband and I are in our forties ,most of the guests were over sixty.
Our room was a nice size and kept clean by the maid who came every day. Towels were changed every day, sheets every other day.
Even though it states not to reserve sunbeds we were woken before 7am by sunbeds being moved into position for their day by the pool. By 9am almost every sunbed had a towel laid out on it.
The restaurant was very busy. We tried different times to eat but there were always queues. The food was ok but nothing special. Desserts were almost the same every night ok if you love jelly,cake and mousse.
We hired a car from Miramar in the resort for a few days and visited some lovely places in Menorca,which I feel is the point of visiting somewhere and not sat round a pool allday. Thomsons excursions were expensive!!!!!
