We've always gone B & B which gives you the freedom of choice to eat different things but to give you food for thought, have a look at WOW Bodrum and pm minione, who has been there several times and seems to be very popular as is Lykia World. You will get differing opinions about AI with many complaining about the standard of food and various restrictions enforced.

The Aqua hotel is an AI that gets consistently good reviews but is pricey. :cheers
The cheaper ones seem to be hit and miss regarding the food.
I stayed at the Club Turban between Icmeler and Marmaris and that also has good reviews.
The Ideal premium beach and the sister hotel seem to have East Europeans as the main holiday makers there.
The Emre beach in Marmaris is another AI that is good but earlier this year there were 200 Bulgarian students students staying which ruined some folks holiday.
They seem to arrive when the hotels are quiet at the beginning f the season.
I will stick with the SC or B&B as we go early and late every year and dont want to risk ending up with a bunch of unruly teenagers. :rofl :rofl

Been to Marmaris about 20 times now and heading back this Saturday. Only once did AI and would safely say we won't be doing it again. We stayed in the Grand Ideal which was a lovely hotel with good facilities however as they were catering for around 5 or 6 different nationalities we found the food rather poor. We did not get good quality alcohol either. I know from others that we may have been unlucky and for some AI is ideal for their needs.

Our needs however are different, we love going to the vast array of restaurants that Marmaris (and Icmeler) have. We find the cost is still good value for money. When we went AI we only ate in at night 3 times during the week we were there (the first 3 !! ).

As I say, tried it but not for us although it certainly suits others.

I can understand the appeal of AI for a family particularly in these days of austerity, but I think in Turkey you have to choose very carefully. There are some small ones in Turunc, but they wouldn't be for us. I think if you are going AI you need to choose somewhere that's more like a holiday village, with several pools and restaurants and large gardens, otherwise I should think most people would go stir-crazy. I have also heard of some that are really cheap, but it's a false economy because in Turkey in AIs' you tend to get what you pay for, and standards can be extremely low.
The exchange rate is particularly favourable this year and we found eating and drinking seemed to be even less expensive when we were there a couple of weeks ago, so self-catering is still a very reasonable option.

I have to say that when i went the food in Lykia World was outstanding, I have had far more indifferent food in restaurants, although it was a few years back, i think Gregg who recently posted on the Lykia thread has just returned from there. Although it is Full Board plus rather than AI, but includes all wine, beer and soft drinks with meals.

Thanks folks, i like to do a lot of research on my holidays and really love the s/c side of our holidays, with the vast array of choices of where to eat, might try and persuade our friends to drop to B/B.

The girls and I got a great cheap AI deal last year so we took it. It worked out well for us but I would go SC/B&B unless it was a great deal as the food out there is great

What ever you decide, be it AI or B & B for Icmeler/Marmaris, check out Icmeleronline and see what they can offer you. John Toohey who does the weather reports will be able to help you in this respect as he is connected to this company.

we go to the wow twice a year may and sept cant fault food service ect for a change went to the ideal prime last sept and what a dissapointment no comparison to wow but wanted to try marmaris again have always gone sc up until 4 years ago but found we were spending to much money we still go out for a drink and to socialise as for the strenth of drink in aliclusives there is a difference between the bars at the pool and beach to the 24 hr bar but when you see people drinking from 10am round the pool its maybe best so not to spoil other enjoyment
