this hotel was lovely and difficult to fault,
luxurious,like a palace.
the staff (as all tunisians)were really nice
and friendly.
the food was better than most people will get
to eat in their normal lives.
the drinks were on the whole cheap and you will
struggle to spend all your money.
tipping is a way for the workers to subsidise their
poor wages. usually 1/2 a dinar to the pool side waiters is sufficient each time they tend to you or
just a couple of dinars (about a 80p)a day should be
ok to keep them happy, even if you don't tip they are
still friendly with you.

also if you tip the pool side attendant he will reserve
sunbeds for you everyday, but let him know if you will
not use the beds that day or morning because he will
get into trouble for holding them for nothing.

of an evening their is uasually a local band playing
old songs and occasional belly dancer.
there are late night discos from 1am !!!

I had read through these reports previous to our visit and went with an open mind as most were complementary.

The hotel itself is very good, very clean and comfortable, good location to have a venture out with good facilities. Most people were friendly apart from a few (Later).

The first 2 nights in the restaurant i tried a bit of everything, my partner didn't touch any meat, then i came down with an upset stomach and had to take to the imodeum which lasted 3 days, that totally put me off the meat. All i can say is you get the same things night after night and i did have my doubts if it was all binned, The last 2 nights we dined out just in case and we couldn't face the same things again.

Some staff were friendly, we found one reception girl not very helpful at all, and one of the cashiers tried to con me. If you change money and its within the time frame he should be at the desk, watch that he uses the computer, if not you will get 2 Diner to the pound instead of the correct rate, if he doe's that simply ask for a receipt to jog his memory of the exchange rate.

Do not change more than you have to, when you travel back and change it at the airport you will lose out big time.

The Rose and crown staff not at all friendly, seems to be the "local" for Sousse.

In general, whilst you are out, unless you want anything you need to just keep saying "no thank you" and beware of allsorts of tricks.

Forget whisky will get you a leather coat, i took 2 ltrs and bought it back, they will ask if you have whisky to get you in the shop but it will not get you anymore than hastle to get out.

Don't get me wrong, Tunisia and this hotel was a good holiday, but beware of the tricks and read these reports, they will prepare you for it, if you can handle that you will have a good holiday.

Just to finish, one trip to do is the 2 day safari, excellent value.

Me and my family stayed at the Tej Marhaba for two weeks in late june 2004. The hotel could not be faulted. I was a bit worried that i would not enjoy the holiday as i am 21 and various comments from people lead me to believe it would not be for me. But they were wrong!

The hotel was grand and by far the best in Sousse. The hotel was exceptionally clean with cleaners cleaning the full hotel 24/7. All staff were very friendly, one waiter at the pool looked after us for the full 2 weeks, for a small tip each day, by bringing our drinks over to us at the pool in an ice bucket and changed the ice every 30 mins. He also added extra food to whatever we ordered just by giving him a small tip. Our waiter who served us on the half board basis was very nice. He give us advice on the best places to go and visit around Tunisia and was always willing to help. In fact all the staff were great!!
The hotel room was clean and spacious, fresh towels and maid service every day. The hotel food was delicious, everything you could want was served. Something different everyday.
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the beach, tej marhaba has its own private part which is nice. Both the inside and outside pool were large and warm. The hotel also has its own shopping complex which is the biggest in Tunisia and its own disco which was huge. There are many bars within the hotel so you are never short of things to do at night. If you get bored of that you can always venture outside the hotel grounds were there are an array of bars there as well. The entertainment is not like you would find say in the Canary Islands, but thats why we choose Tunisia; however there is still plenty to keep you occupied.
There are many good things i could say about this hotel, but it would be better to find out yourself!!
I will def be going back there again.

Stayed at this hotel from the 11th to 18th of april, just come back. Had a overall good holiday food was good but did seem to repeat itself occasionally and some bar staff can be very dodgy. As a review on the hotel itself it was very plush and grand the rooms were very spacious and the staff were very nice as a whole, especially our waiter who we tipped well (5 dinars) each night and recieved very good attention!(be prepared to tip at least 1 dinar for a good waitering service at least).

The hotel was very grand. From the moment we got off the coach the porters collected our cases and took them up to the room. The room was very spacious, spotless and the staff could not do enough for us. The balcony was big and the room had a huge bed.

There is a massive outside pool area and an indoor pool which were both very clean, take your own beach towels though as they don't let you take the hotel towels out of the rooms.

The food was very good, although very similar throughout the week. There was always Tunisian, Italian & English types of dishes. Breakfast was delicious!

The hotel has a shopping centre atached which is handy as there are bars & cafes & a club without having to step outside but it is only a 20 min walk to the centre of Sousse. And only 5 mins walk to the beach. Taxi's to everywhere were really cheap which is a great way to get about.

The hotel was very friendly, we met loads of people and the English Pub 'The Rose & Crown' was a great meeting point.

There wasn't much entertainment in the hotel, although I think that was because of the time of year.

We had a great holiday at Tej Marhaba. Hotel room large and clean, staff very friendly and helpful especially our waiter.
Shopping centre in hotel was great and very reasonable
There could have been a bit more entertainment at night but we were there in low season so maybe more in summer.
We will be going back next February!

We have just come back from our fourth trip to tunisia but our first trip to the tej marhaba. We have seen the tej marhaba many times and always felt that it was too posh for the likes of us! How wrong we were!!!! We have had a ball. The hotel is beautiful with a very relaxed feeling to it. It is very clean and cool with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are large and very clean, most with fantastic views of the pool and sea. The food in the hotel was very nice but the menu was not varied. We found the food to be lovely though after two years in different hotels that served inedible food. The staff throughout the hotel were very courtious and friendly, nothing was too much for them. The actual hotel itself didnt really have much evening entertainment, but we were regulars at the rose and crown which had the nicest staff you could wish for. My sister and i liked to end the evening with a few hours of clubbing in the nightclub over the road called Bonaparte. The music is a mix of R&b with catchy arabic tunes. It really is an experience not to be missed. The "locals" that us tourists see are not the real local people of tunisia. Not everyone wants to crack on to english girls. As i have said, this was our fourth trip to tunisia and we have made some life long friends both male and female and we would strongly recommend tunisia and this hotel to anyone.

I too have just returned from a holiday in Tunisia and I had the privilege in staying at the Tej Marhaba in Sousse.

What a great hotel! All the members of staff from Reception to the maids were very friendly and helpful.

As there was no Smirnoff Ice, but I got accustomed to Fanta Lemon with Vodka. Very Nice!

The local brew of Celtia was very much appreciated by the two beer lovers that I was with .

I have just returned from 10 days at this hotel and have to say that I had a great time. It's a fairly large hotel, but it's clean, the staff are friendly and efficient and there was plenty of food. I had no trouble at all getting a sunbed in the morning - in fact most of them were still available at 10am so no rushing down with towels to grab a sunbed!! I must agree that there isn't a great deal to do in the evenings, but I was happy just to sit by the bar and have a few drinks so if you are looking for nightlife I wouldn't say Tunisia is the place to go. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are thinking of going to Sousse.
