Back again to El Hana Beach and, though it pains me, I feel I must give a fair and unbiased report.

This has never been one of the top hotels but has suited me because of its situation and the friendliness of the staff. These things still remain, as do the comfortable beds, constant supply of hot water and excellent pressure of the showers. The room was adequate though with no TV and one of the wall lights looked as if it might fall down at any time. You can lock one side of the wardrobe and the maid was totally honest.

Even the food is reasonable and the tea in the morning (Liptons Yellow Label) was excellent. Guests from the 4 star Residence next door had to eat in our hotel as their one was not providing food. The only 'entertainment', apart from background music most of the time, was one evening when they had a large screen showing the Andre Riue concert from New York (excellent) and another evening of a Tina Turner show from somewhere (very noisy). With so few guests it is not surprising they could not afford to provide entertainment.

Basically the main problems seemed to be lack of overall control, or even common sense. For example, they were always running out of plates and cups and when asked they eventually came back with two or three only.
The toilets near reception were never serviced properly. On one occasion I reported there was no toilet paper in any of the three, two had no light bulbs and one was quite frankly filthy. A couple of hours later I chased them up on it and the toilet paper was replaced but the other matters were ignored.

As I say, it saddens me to write this report but I have to be absolutely honest. Would I return? Probably, as I personally can live with the imperfections, but I would advise any newcomers to Tunisia to think carefully and probably choose another hotel.

Unfortunately this hotel has deteriorated further since last October although the staff are still helpful and pleasant as always. The food can best be described as passable, though breakfasts are inadequate and the tea is undrinkable. No way does it warrant 4* rating. Had I booked through a travel agent and paid full price I would have felt justified in complaining.

There was little entertainment, except a 'band' a couple of nights. The only lively night was 1st May when we had several Tunisian families staying and everyone from grandparents to little children were singing and playing, but this was promptly stopped before midnight.

It saddened me as the El Hana Residence has seemed like home to me but they have problems at present which I only hope they can solve.
