For a 4 star hotel found the bathroom was dated with crusty tiles around the bath. Room was clean, comfortable and air conditioned (48c one day).

The food was tasty but not enough Tunisian cuisine on the menu. Didn't want to eat chips, lasagne, meat pie, etc. The French and Italian restaurants are a must, so do book as soon as you can. The service and friendliness of the staff is excellent. Everyone wishes you a good day from the bar staff to the maids.

Entertainment here at the hotel is dire. There's a guy who plays the same old songs night after night. Too much Frank Sinatra and Chris de Burgh. Other entertainment is held on the stage and this too is awful.

Location wise the hotel is 45 mins from the airport and 7mins from the marina which is a must to visit.

Despite the lack in entertainment, we would visit the Royal Kenz again.

Kenz is undergoing a face lift which is being done so discreetly you may not notice unless paying particular attention.

Room was cleaned everyday even if you didn't leave the room until the afternoon, most days upon returning, towels or any odd bits of clothing left lying around were arranged into flowers etc on bed. Air conditioning in the room was a must and worked no problem.

The first morning we were on the beach by 7:30 after reading reports that sun loungers were always taken early but found that even going to the beach or pool 10am onwards plenty of sun loungers available. (Not always with shade but still plenty of space)

The staff are great and very friendly my partner got confused with the currency and tried to pay extra for some things (10 dinar instead of 2 dinar etc) and they always handed back the money.

Food in the hotel is usual average and can get repetitive we ended up guessing what was going to be on the menu before going down to eat and were always right. But still nice, even being a faddy eater I managed to find plenty to enjoy.

Evening entertainment is excellent for what it is, ie ordinary staff, reps enjoying themselves and putting on amateur shows for guests. If you don't expect professionals and Oscar winning performances but just a giggle, you wont be disappointed.

The hotel was in good location for us, not in the hustle and bustle but easy enough to get to the town and back 3 dinar each way in a taxi (1.50 ish) 10 dinar in a horse drawn carriage.

Hotel shop was great but go barter in the town MUCH cheaper!

Overall much enjoyed.

We arrived at the airport and joined the queue to go through passport control most companies give you the entry form on the plane, please put you flight number on the top left hand side as this was causing quite a delay as no one tells you to do it, and keep the piece given back to you as you need this to exit the country.

The porters will try and take your bags for you but a polite no will allow you to take your own. Once through it is quite hard to locate your coach but once on, the journey to the hotel takes about half an hour. At the hotel leave your bags the porters will take them off you and deliver then to your room 50p-

We stayed half board and found the food both for breakfast and evening meal to be delicious and varied. There was enough of a selection that even if they did serve similar from one day to the next you could still have a variety. There is a section that seems to serve Tunisian dishes such as cous cous and this had something different every evening. They do have some food to suit the holidaymaker who only wants British food ie Pie & Chips, Full English. However you cannot expect the bacon and sausages to be like ours, it is Tunisia not Britain (or Spain!).

There does seem to be sitting times for breakfast and dinner we just stuck to the time we were given and never had to share a table. There was another couple using our table, but we never saw them as they had a different time to us. If the time you are given is not suitable then they were willing to change it for you with no fuss at all.

The French restaurant is fantastic, unhurried and the waiters are brilliant. I would recommend that you book both the French and Italian as soon as you arrive in the hotel before the welcome meeting as everyone tries to get in then and they only have limited spaces. The books are next to reception, just ask them and they will point it out to you!

The hotel was spotlessly clean everywhere we went. Rooms were cleaned daily by lovely chatty ladies. Public areas were cleaned every morning as we were leaving the restaurant after breakfast.

The pools and surrounding areas were also spotlessly clean, although being a non smoker I found it annoying that smokers left their butts on the grass & in the sand.

There are a few cats wandering round the pool area and outside cafe, however they only want a bit of tuna that smells so good to them. They were no bother & the tiny kitten was so cute to watch rolling about in the shady spots!

The staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. This includes the Thomson reps, they seemed to always be around if you needed to ask a question and were very knowledgeable about the area and Tunisia as a whole.

The entertainment was the same as you get in any hotel. It's always going to be a bit red coaty but it is better than sitting in a quiet bar all evening. The piano player is good, and provides good background music for playing cards or having a bottle of Tunisian wine (which is lovely) on the terrace.

We went on a few trips - Tale of 3 Cities and the Zulu Evening. Both were excellent value for money and were run by extremely good tour guides. We also took a trip on the 'Albatross' Catamaran & we saw dolphins which were definitely worth it. This can be booked through your rep or from the people on the marina. There is only 1 dinar difference in the price so we booked it through our rep.

In all we had a fantastic holiday and only wish we had booked for 2 weeks instead of one! We will go back to the Royal Kenz and I would recommend it to anyone of any age. We are in our late 20's and there were people of all ages there...and no kids, definitely a bonus!

I would say that if anyone, like us, read reviews and were a bit worried about going to the Royal Kenz - do not worry or take any notice. There is nothing wrong with this hotel. It is being improved with very discrete bits & bobs being done. It can only get better, which is an even bigger bonus for next time we go!

We arrived at the hotel and were amazed, it actually does look as good in real life as it does in the brouchers and internet.

The hotel is kept very clean in all areas. We did notice an odd smell ever now and then around the pool area if you were near a drain cover (but in a hot country with maybe not a great drainage system as we are used to I would expect the odd whiff) not enough to make us move or be put off.

The food was excellent, my advice though would be not to try and eat a little of everything everyday as I think thats where a lot of people get fed up of the food. Just go for one or two things and you wont get bored.

We had a set dinner time and when we arrived we asked for a table for two and had no problem getting it, we stuck to our dinner times and never had any problems with sharing.

If you get the early sitting as we did then dont worry about asking to come later there will be no problems. We never actually managed to get to breakfast as even 10 am is a bit early for us after a night on the beer.

The French and Italian restuarants are a must, it is so nice to be servered after eating buffet style all week, although to be honest the food is the same as what you get in the main area just better presented.

The Hotel location was ideal for us as we wanted a holiday where we could sit in the sun all day and drink by night, we ventured into the port once in a taxi but during the day it is so hot we just walked around a bit and came back.

The supermarket where they sell beer is quiet hard to find unless you know where it is but we found it and the prices are like duty free.

The hotel staff were excellent they were very willing to help.

We actually quiet enjoyed the entertainment put on , just go in with an open mind and a few beers and you will love it.

Although that being said the Animation team put on "The Riverdance" and for someone that has never seen the original I thought it was fantastic.

Although one of them did almost mannage to set himself on fire while we were there.

I would go back to the Royal Kenz without a doubt.

We went to the Kenz on our honeymoon last year and I can't tell you how lovely it was. The weather was great; we went to the beach and stayed by the pools. The staffs were great; the buffet food was fantastic [also a French and Italian restaurant option which was good but you have to book early].

We went on 2 trips [Hammamet & Sahara]. The Sahara one was wonderful although the bus journey was quite tedious with not much legroom for my 6footer hubby. The hotel in the desert was fabulous; the set for the Star Wars film was ok worth a look. Gladiator set too. Oasis in the desert very lush and again worth a look. Take sweets or coloured pencils for the troglodyte kids, very nice people who let you into their cave homes.

The shop in the royal Kenz had most of what you need at reasonable prices including pottery, kaftans and gifts. We did enjoy bartering in the markets though.
Taxis were easily available but the good old 'tuk tuk [dilapidated looking]was only 1 euro to practically anywhere, if a little hair raising it was nice and cool and fun too.

The Royal Kenz Hotel was a really nice clean hotel.

The staff were really friendly and the maid service used to make our bed look georgeous! We even had flowers petals on the bed and a towel shapped into a heart!

As you may already know in Tunisia they have a closed currency so you can only change your money once you get there! The part of the reception that changed money was open from 10am - 1pm and then 5pm - 9pm. As you can imagine on the first day you arrive it is absolutely manic and you need to get there early inless you want to be waiting for ages! Also change your money day by day because you will be suprised how little you spend, as you have to change all your money back you are better off changing as little as you can as the exchange rate back isn't very good.

The food was nice but all quite fancy so unless your not fussy sometimes it can be hard to find something to eat!

Entertainment I thought wasn't very varied. As the hotel is the only place of entertainment you would expect alot of choice! However it was usually a choice between a man singing jazzy type music or something like river dance being performed by the staff. As you can imagine at 19 and 21 this wasnt really our cup of tea. Plus the rooms were entertainment were given were very small and filled up very quickly which left you with not alot to do!

The Royal Kenz is getting a face lift, however the work being done is invisible to the visitors. New sun shades down, new state of the art stage built down by the lower pool, painting going on throughout. New blinds in lobby, new carpet in bar area, it just arrives, minimum fuss.

Fine family run hotel, good craic round the pool in the mornings. Want a particular spot you have to be up by seven, mattresses for a bed per day one dinar.

Average temp 39, hot at lunchtime....

We had a great stay, will return.

Hotel was well situated with two pools and private beach.

Food was very good and if you go hungry it's your own fault.

Staff always helpful we asked for a room change and were moved the next morning.

Entertainment could be better a bit red coaty.
