The Santa Maria was a lovely comfortable hotel, the rooms and public areas were clean and accessible. The rooms were a little small when you have three adults sharing and we could have done with more storage space. There was a leaflet in the room telling you about the facilities etc. The beds were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were firendly and helpful. The pool area was cleaned daily as was the pool itself and jacuzzis. There were depth markings on the pool and also plenty of warning signs around about diving and jumping. There was a roof terrace where no children were allowed which was a lovely place to relax and top up the tan. Unfortunately there were no refreshments available up there and it could be extremely hot and there was very little shade. The restaurant always had a good selection of food, although it was not always to everyones taste.
The hotel is centrally located and was about a 10 minute walk to the main promenade, however, those with walking difficulties may find it difficult as it is a steep climb up a hill or steps to the hotel.
The bus stop was not too far away and there were plenty of little shops around.
A good place to stay and an ideal location for getting around to explore the Islands.

Anyone who says this hotel is clean must live in dirty conditions themselves not to notice. Floors absolutely... filthy, beds disgusting, under boxed bed don,t ask. 3 star not a chance more like 1 star.
My son is severly disabled, I explained this before we went, not a thing in place to help.
I had to clean room myself and stop cleaners coming in as they used the most filthy floor cloths i have ever seen.
Don't go if you like to sleep lying down!!!!

We loved the hotel it was a great enviroment to stay in.
The staff were great especially Andre, Paul, Omar and of course Dario all great fun and lively people.
It was brilliant I met so many nice Maltese people.
The rooms were very comfy the pools were great.
Half board food and drink is good and the location was fairly near to town

We arrived late in the evening by coach and dragged ourselves through to reception to be greeted by the most excellent and funny no-nonsense night manager ever!
The rooms are clean, dry and towels were changed daily.
The breakfast is as you would expect 3-star to be. Continental meat being used for an english meal - excellent quality considering the low price people pay to go here. Main meals are a good and nutritious.
This time of year the pool is freezing - great for sunburn so use that waterproof suncream well. Make sure you get a room on the poolside and not streetside.
The rooftop jacuzzi is fun and you can lounge around on the roof until late evening.
The bar is ok - nothing special - geared up for here we go season so there is a pay at the till get a ticket system - remember you can use the amenities of the hotel over the road as well.
The heated indoor swimming pool lives up to its name. Even though the walls and radiators in there need a good lick of paint it was still very good.
The staff are polite if you are to them - remember that!
Always tip the chamber maid.

we stayed here for a week it was the longest week of my life the hotel is shabby, the staff are very rude. we had no choice but to stay in the hotel due to the terrible weather. The food is very basic the best thing about the hotel is the location, it is easy to reach all areas of malta from the center

myself and partner stayed here for 8nights last year and cant wait to go back we could not fault any part of the holiday except for the rude reception staff.
the rooms were large and kept very clean, the food although basic was good and avaliable at all hours if not in the restaurant but at the snack bar.and with use of the san anon hotel also.
the entertainment wasnt great but there was plenty to do outside the hotel at night.
overall we could not fault this hotel/holiday atall and are looking to return again this year.

This was the worst hotel we have ever been. The staff were a just crap. The room was disgusting and sometimes smelt quite bad. The food was not clever at all. All together i would not advise anybody ever to go to this place. When you first get there you will be treated like royalty but this will not last long.

Visited comment page out of curiosity as interested in booking Santa Maria for next year. We went all inclusive which we wouldn't do again because it ties you to the hotel too much. Found staff to be excellent, always find on holiday that hotel staff respond to your friendliness!
Actually transferred from original booking at San Anton as didn't like the room, and were offered a lovely room overlooking pool, lovely on a night having a nightcap on balcony over illuminated pool.
Food OK - neither better or worse than anything we had anywhere else in a 3* hotel. If you want sumptious food, book 5*.
On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, the entertainment again OK, what do people expect - Neil Diamond and Madonna.
Perhaps we are too easily pleased compared to some of the comments, but will definitely return. Wonder if Lawrence is still maitre d' - lovely man!
