we arrived at the bayside appartments on they 29 june 2008 for 14 days,on arrival it looked ok but had a strong smell of sewers to which put us off straght away, the staff where very nice and helpful and booked us in straight away and showed us the way to our room.the room was first floor with a balcony and a small kitchen area which was ok looked clean.bathroom was small but clean with a bath and shower in it some mildew on tiles but ok.we did have a problem with beds being changed only once in the two weeks we were there.also towels were only changed once a week. we did eat at the restaurant several times and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. the location at salgados is on average 15 minutes walk from anywhere not to bad,beach/restaurants etc only 15 minutes in taxi from old town about 8 euro's there and same back. only went to the enterainment nights a couple of times and it was ok as we were eating at the same time has entertainment was going on.hotel staff were very nice and helpful to us we did book a couple of trips through the hotel and had no problems, yes i think we would visit the appartments again only if the hotel cleanliness was improved a little apart from that yes we would visit these appartments again.

after my wife got a unbelievalbe offer on the internet for a holiday in the algarve i wasn't expecting to much however my expectations were blown out of the water when i got here.
from the moment we arrived we were totally disgusted by every thing we found the room was damp dirty and unequipped. We booked this on a S/C basis but did not even have a tin opener let alone any other luxuries when we did buy some food the only cupboard we had to store it in had a really bad smell and this is where the bin was kept. After approaching the reception about these problems we were just ignored.Outside the room the smell of sewage was so strong you did not want to stay in the hotel grounds the swimming pool was so cold that ice bergs floated past. The bar area was ok and offered a good range of drinks.the location was in the middle of no where we checked out after 2 days. Travel here at your own risk!!!!!!!!!!!

We had read previous reports so we took a kettle, and a tin opener. Having requested an upper floor when we booked, we also took a small washing line, tied it to the rails and hey presto - no problem!
We were there for a total of five weeks, some business, but also holiday. Bed linen was changed weekly and I lost count of the times the towels were changed.
We never used the pool but saw it being cleaned more than once, towards the end of our stay they pulled over what looked like a greenhouse so even when it was a bit windy the pool could still be used.
Yes I grant that the apartments are a bit off the beaten track, but there was a well stocked supermarket, we were there and back in 15 minutes. OK a bit more to pay but not over the top!
we had a hire car so can't comment about the free bus service.

After reading previous reviews we were nervous about what we were going to.First impression was its in the middle of nowhere. After exploring the area & asking others we found a shop & bar on the corner,5 other bars/restaurants nearby, furthest approx 15 min walk (turn right out hotel door, left at top of road & keep walking, road veres off to right,at the end of the junction, almost opposite to the right is the one we enjoyed the most, stopping off at 3 bars on the way).
A large supermarket is also 5/10 min walk with the beach opposite(take your own parasols as cannot hire them),route to here is walk past the shop on the corner and keep on that side, walk to the right hand corner of the apartments here and theres a sandy walk way, walk through and turn to the right at the end bringing you onto the supermarket carpark.
We had 3 rooms in total, all with seperate bedrooms and air con, all very clean, maids everyday and towells almost everyday (we put dirty ones in beday & they were always replaced), sheets changed regularly too.Nice clean decor, looked like new curtains, nice tiled floors. No kettle but took a travel one.We had ground floor, which was nice as opened onto patio and large grassed area for our son to play football.(dont leave anything out on a night as sprinlkers come on for the grass )
Decent sized pool , not too deep, small jacuzzi/ kids pool, pool side bar, and playarea with sand pit, each block of apartments has jacuzzis on ,so plenty to keep kids ammused.
Entertainment at indoor bar, about 3 nights a week, not that great but better then nothing, snooker table and internet in bar for kids.
Free bus to albufeira, last one at 1530 so we got own taxi on a night , between 8 and 10euros each way.Bus driver does drive fast but i suppose he knows the roads like the back of his hands.
The reception has leaflets on every excursion going, which pick you up from the hotel, we did the waterpark , but there are cruises, trips to lisbon, spain etc .
All in all we made our own fun as there were 12 of us , if wed have gone as a family of 4, wed have gone through to albufeira more often.

The apartment was self-catering, very basic and lacked on a lot of things. It did not have a kettle or toaster. There is only a hot plate with 2 electric rings which makes it difficult when wanting to stay in and eat. It did however have a microwave. There was nowhere to store your groceries and limited space to prepare food.

The bathroom did not have anywhere to put our toiletries so we had to use the wardrobe in the bedroom as there was no dressing table. The hairdryer in the bathroom began to smoke when we used it so did not use it again. Even though the cleaners came in 6 days a week to clean there was still a damp and musty smell and the tiles looked filthy.

The bedroom did not have any electric sockets and was very damp and musty again the cleaners came in and changed the bedding once in the 10 days but the fresh bedding smelt musty. The main bedroom light did not work so the room was very dim with the wall lights as the curtain in the bedroom did not open.

The living area was very basic with a single bed to sit on with large cushions as a back rest. When we moved the kitchen table it was filthy. There was a very limited choice of UK programmes that would work on the TV when it worked. The patio windows did not get cleaned in the 10 days we were there and were filthy but the block opposite ours did. The curtains had holes and stains (like bleach) on them and did not fit the drop of the patio, they were about 4 inches too short but had about 8 inches turn up on them.

The walls in all the rooms had squashed bugs on them and cobwebs around the coving. There is nowhere to dry your washing if you are on the ground floor, it took 4 days for my first lot of washing to dry, which by the time it did smelt musty.

The ground floor apartment we had was in the shade all the time which made it very cool but I think this is why it smelt damp and musty. Although we did have free air conditioning we did not need it. If you do any washing and you are on the ground floor do not leave it out at night as the sprinklers come on early hours of the morning.

There is a roof terrace but we were told we could not use it with no explanation why just a "sorry". After that the door to the roof was locked. Another couple we were talking to said the girl in the reception had told them they could go onto the terrace of their block. It was not the same one that told us "sorry".

The staff were friendly except one male barman who took over from the young female on her day off at the pool bar.
We cannot comment on the entertainment or food as we did not go in the restaurant / bar area.

We were going to use the mini bus to go into town but after hearing from other guests about his behaviour and drinking decided not to.

It is a fair distance from most restaurants and shops and you would really need a car to get around. It is not well sign posted from the main road. The only good point is if you like to play golf it is in walking distance to the golf course.

It was our first time to Portugal but will be our last as all in all it really put us off.

Building work being done, went self catering, only s electric rings, no kettle ,no toaster, hotel/apartments out of the way about 15 minute walk to the beach, very nice beach, free air conditioning, entertainment rubbish, had 1 meal at the restaurant that was okay, this would be a brilliant holiday for golfers as this is the only thing that it has got that is good.

Free bus into town would not recommend if you value your life as the driver likes his drink and he is miserable, staff was okay, arrived on the Saturday had to ask for some clean towels on the thursday sheets changed once.

First time visited Portugal ------------and definitely the last.

We stayed at the Bayside Salgados from the beginning of May until the 9 June six weeks in all.

We went on a self catering basis and the only things lacking were a kettle and toaster which knew before we went so took our own.

We never ate in the hotel so cannot comment on the food they serve.

The hotel location was a bit far out but the hotel did have its own mini bus which ran three times a day the bus only holds 8 people but the bus driver will do three or trips depending on how many people are waiting. The bus driver can be a bit grumpy only because people do not give him any respect he did have a couple of run ins with the guests when we were there but we did not have any problems with him. (He does like his brandy morning noon and night)

The hotel staff are very friendly and the rooms are cleaned everyday.

Riccardo the barman is a brillant guy very helpful and likes the ladies.(Be warned he has a drink which is the riccardo special and will make for you on your last night try and get it the night before the night you go it will give you a hangover if you have more than one.(its called pink ----)and lives up to its name.

Tom who is not the manager and from London has a shop just outside the complex and a appartment upstairs he also does the karroke nights.

The entertaiment was okay as far as it went, tiffany is an excellent singer and riu on the guitar is good apart from that unless you like bingo etc not much else

I would not visit this hotel again the main reason being the location.

On Arrival had to wait 2 hours for our room.
food was very basic and the barman was misserable.

entertainment was bleak! except for the singer tiffany. any beach is quite a way from the hotel. bars and resturants are also a long way from the hotel.

we got the free bus from the hotel into the old town and the bus driver was drunk and extremley arrogant.

when we got our room the door handle was broken and one day we got back to our rom and the cleaner had left the door wide open. the blacony door did not lock.

no clean towels the whoel time we stayed there. The hotel is basically in the middle of nowhere. It was my first time to portugal and it put me off completley.

Stayed at the bayside apartments in August 2006 for 12 nights on a s.c basis the apartments were very clean and the maids came in 6 times a week - towels were changed twice a week but the bedding was never changed in the 12 days we were there.

We never ate at the apartments so can not comment on the food but the menu sounded nice and very well priced - the staff were very pleasant at all times.

There is a beach within 10 Min's walk which is very nice and a few very nice restaurants within walking distance as well.

We had a car so the location was not a problem for us - it was in a quite location which is what we wanted - Albufeira is about 10-15 Min's drive away.

The gardens are well kept and so is the pool with a nice pool bar which sold snacks/drinks which were very well priced.

The entertainment was OK on a night it was a plus for us as we thought there was no entertainment.

I would visit this hotel again as it was excellent value for money - there are building right next to the bayside apartments some executive apartments but this was not a problem at all - our balcony faced the building works but did not disrupt or disturb our holiday.

The apartments are very spacious very clean maid cleans 6days per week. Towels and bedding should be changed regular but on some occasions I had to strip the bed to get clean sheets and towels.(Maybe short staff) The kitchenette had two rings, fridge, microwave no kettle no toaster would recommend you take a tin opener and wine opener.

Hotel food not good we had English breakfast which was 5 euro expensive compared to Albufeira 2.50euro

The hotel bus was very good took you to supermarket and old town of Albufeira for free 3 times per day (Gomez the driver)is very good just ask him about the weather especially if its raining.

The swimming pool very nice although freezing cold like the Jacuzzi's they also cold don't forget to try the one's on the roof tops very good if you want a little relaxation from the kids. The beer cheap both at the pool bar and in reception bar and taste's good had plenty of it, the white wine also very nice.

All the staff are very friendly and very helpful.

Its a lovely complex but in a quiet location 10 euro there and 10 euro back (taxi) into old town for entertainment of which the Bayside lack alot of only good night is karaoke night on Tuesday evening.

We booked through Midashotels.com and the accommodation cost
