It came as quite a surprise, as we approached the hotel along the beach, to find that it has now closed down. It seems that the hotel operators failed to pay the rent to the government and The Side Hotel, the first to be built on the beach, is no more.
No doubt a new hotel will spring up on the site.

This was our first visit to Side and we were not aware how "German" the resort was but since we spend more time talking to the locals than other holiday makers we were not put off. The other guests were mainly non-Brit in the hotel but that was not a problem.
The facilities were basic but adequate and the the holiday was very enjoyable for two reasons.
The location - absolutely perfect and the staff - very friendly and helpful. We would certainly use this hotel again.
The beach was so good that we only tried the pool on the last day.
The restaurant attached to the front of the hotel was excellent. The only negative was the crappy music played in the beach bar. Next time I'll take my own music in self defence.

I seem to have registered a self-catering by mistake and wanted to set the record straight. We were bed and breakfast and the breakfast was the usual Turkish style with the occasional addition of eggy bread or garlic toast. We were allowed to pay an extra when we chose to and join the Half-board people for dinner. It would have been excellent (and cheap) except that I am vegetarian and the choice was not so good for me. Meat eaters would have fared very well indeed.
We often ate in the restaurant attached to the front of the hotel which was very, very good and was right on the beach.
I have registered a "1" for entertainment not because it was diabolical but because there wasn't any. Any number of Turkish nights were available nearby but I have seen all the belly dancing I ever need to.
The waiters at the Side did dances from time to time and were both friendly and informative.
This hotel is basic but I prefer that because I spend very little time there. An all inclusive would make me feel obliged to stay on the hotel grounds to get full value and then I would miss the delights of wandering around and meeting the locals and exploring the sights.
