Gouves is a little town only two or three streets most entertainment is hotel based.

The resort centre was about half a mile walk from our hotel along a quiet road. the town had a selction af resturants and bars which we found did some very nice meals. I can recommend the Medusa Greek owned lovely steaks the sort of place to spoil yourself and its staff are really frienly and welcoming and the Pig and Whisle english owned nice plain cooked meals at reasonable prices (good job with our hotel being so bad)Other than that there was a small selection of souvenir shops just enough and not to much.

The beach was right opposte our hotel and we found it very clean the sunbed man never missed a beat bless him he always charged you with a smile 6 euros for 2 beds and a brolly. There was a life guard on all day 10am till 6pm.

The wind picked up and the sea did get a bit choppy a couple of days and you could go on to the beach but not in the sea. The donut man came around 3-4 times aday I recommend them and I dont usually like them the man with salad rolls came around once aday and a man selling fresh fruit came every day about 1pm so you were always fed if not watered but there ar plently of little cafes to get drinks and icecreams during the day.

The watersports were there too from pedalos and canoes to paracending not really that expensive either nice for a change and the sea is shallow for quite away so safe for the little ones and non-swimmers.

The beach was always clean and your were provided with a little bin it was an empty paint tin but it did the job all in all the beach was nice if a bit crowded Gouves is suitable for families and friends but not the 18-30s crowd which is nice

Gouves is generally small and friendly with some rocky beaches and some sandy ones if you walk a little further. 'The Strip' of shops and restaurants runs from the village down to the beach and takes about 20 mins to walk down.We used the little cove which the locals seemed to like which is outside the diving school,a small bay which is good for the kids as its not dangerous and quite shallow. If you want a sandy beach you have to walk left pastthis apparently!Gouves is no Malia and quite low-key but is great for families and couples looking for a relaxing holiday with good food and fantastic scenery. You may need a car to see other places,Kokkini Hani has a lovely beach but sea is rough. Heraklion is interesting and Water City is a good day out. Have a great holiday !

Nice beach - clean - lots going on if you wanted it - life guards whom actually got in and saved people - flags indicating the safety of the sea.

Nice little village of Gouves - nice bars - supermarkets and shops.

I have been to gouves 3 times in 2 years and i have fallen for the place and the people. It is never very dirty, there are plenty of bars and restaurants and the beaches are resonable. If you dont fancy a quiet night in a bar with friendly faces, bar staff are more than happy to call a taxi (or you can wait near the supermarket where taxis sometimes stop) and go to Hersonissos which takes around 10-15minutes where they are loads of clubs, bars, restuarants, you name it. I fully enjoyed my time in Gouves and would recommend it to anyone!

Gouves is a pleasant resort although if you are looking for night clubs and a bar on every corner you will be dissapointed, its fine for a walk down the coastal road, and the town itself has plenty of eateries, and shops (mainly clothes/ciggies/perfumes/local crafts) I would recommend it for families with smaller children..ie pre -teenagers!
