Everything about this hotel was good ,the location, staff,views, food etc.
The only thing that lets it down is the quality of the entertainment. Many evenings we would have enjoyed a dance but there is only a guy on an organ in one of the bars and the theatre which one person described as a typical British Holiday camp atmosphere.
With such a lovely hotel surely someone could arrange a disco in the grounds one night .
Apart from the lack of hotel entertainment the holiday was superb and we would not hesitate to return.

My husband and I have just returned back from our Honeymoon and we are already looking to go back next year !!
When we arrived we were allocated a room on the 15th Floor the views were lovely but it was just too high for us, so we went back to reception to change rooms. The staff are so helpful and they cant do enough for you it's just a shame that some guests are rude to them and expect them to do everything for them.
The rooms are really spacious and are cleaned everyday. There is also a minibar and optics in the room which are free. The minibar is re-stocked every other day, but if you run out you can ask them to re-stock it and its not a problem.
The food is really nice, and there is always plenty of choice Im a fussy eater but I had no complaints. The waiters are really helpful and are always asking if everythings ok, and if we needed anything.
The evening entertainment was ok, it was not to everyones taste, but it is much better than some other hotels ive stayed in, in the past. All the enterainment team work so hard from 9.00am til 11.pm with daytime and evening entertainment.
Whilst we were there we did a couple of trips we booked the platium cruise through the reps which was fantastic as we got to swim with Dolphins, shark and stingrays. We also went to CoCo Bongos which you have to go to you will be amazed.
We booked our other trips through the shops across the road in the shopping mall as its much cheaper than the reps. The Jungle Tour is brillant. I didnt think Chitzen Itza was very good, its a long bus ride and your only there 2hours.
You will not be disappointed with this hotel we thought it was fantastic. Cant wait for next year !!!

This hotel is spotless so much so that cleaning staff can been seen polishing the floors well into the night.
The food was exceptional with a very varied menuand the brazillian reastaurant is to die for. I would say the location wss ok but at the time of year we travelled with the sun being low in the sky and the tallness of this hotel half of its beach was in the shade by 2.00 pm.
The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful and could not be faulted and very quick in offering you tea or coffee at breakfast...however it seems that if you said later at this stage they didnt return and needed prompting.
The entertainment was in a fantastic theatre and I could onlt describe it as typical of an english holiday camp, definately recommended.

This was without doubt a lovely hotel, with good quality buffet food, nice clean rooms, excellent views and excellent staff. It has a lovely private beach, plently of sunbeds and in a great location. It was however, shocking to see how the visitors there treated it. There were cigarette stumps all over the beach, and plently of other rubbish left on it. The swimming pools seemed to be dominated by loud young(ish)Americans who smoked in the drinks/swim up bar, and pee'd into it to the extent that the water appeared more yellow at the end of the day than blue. They were generally oboixious with little regard for anyone other than them selves. If I were to return to this hotel, I would find out when to go when there are fewer young Americans there. Any British people that I spoke to there all seemed to say that they were having a great time 'apart from the Americans'. I would just like to point out that I am not Anti American, as we spent the previous week in New York and found the people there great, it must just have been the fact that they were on holiday. Cancun itself is a lively resort with plenty of bars and restaurants. All in all. I would go back to Cancun, but would stay at the Riu Palace.

This is the second year we have stayed here and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and cleanliness of the hotel. The food is always fresh as it is constantly being cooked in front of you. Our kids loved it as there are always activities going on arranged by the very hard working entertainment staff. The shows in the theatre at night are not great but the kids enjoyed them and they were old enough that they could watch them on their own while we sat outside having a drink. There are a lot of loud Americans but they are all friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The two things which let this hotel down are firstly the entertainment, for a 5 Star hotel I would expect alot better from them, something more professional, to mention just one cheesy low rate entertainment, beer drinking competitions on the beach.
The lack of Christmas music ie carols etc over the Xmas period, they were almost no existent, I complained to the rep, bar manager and the assistant hotel manager about this but to no avail. at 11.40 pm on Christmas eve we were in the main lounge listening to Bob Marley and Barry White, the whole place lacked Christmas spirit, even the Americans were disappointed.
Other than this, the things they provided over Christmas were exceptional, more than you could ask for, even with these two problems, having stayed at some of the finest hotels around the world, for a holiday hotel I have to rate this hotel top, every worker in the hotel did there jobs to perfection, and always with a smile, and yes I would go back but not for Christmas.

What can i say about this hotel, it was 100 percent amazing, the staff (exspecialy the entertainment staff) can not do enough for you. The shows are sometimes a bit cheesy but are still worth watching. There are plenty of bars and resturant in the Riu as the hotel is huge. Has got 4 swimming pools, one with a pool bar which got pretty crowded in the day.
FOOD - I'm a fusy eater but there was a good variety so i never staved!!
BEACH - The sea is turquise, beautiful and always warm. The sand was so fine it was a pleasure to walk on.
ROOMS - The rooms were modern and were cleaned every day. They have brilliant air conditioning which you will diffinatly need as the air over there is so clamy. We stayed on the 12 floor and what a fantastic view. All rooms are over looking the sea. Another good thing is that if you dont fancy going out one night you have got a little mini bar in your room with Vodka, Tekela, Rum, Water, 7up, Coke, Beer etc, which is refilled ever two days.
TRIPS - Whilst in Mexico we did a few trips. One was swimming with dolphins, unbeleiveable day out and well worth the money. We also went to a club/show called COCO BONGO'S which was brilliant! there were lookalikes such as Micheal Jackson, Queen, Usher, Beyonce and plenty more things going on there. The Captain Hooks Cruise was O.K. but more for the young kids we thought. There are plenty of interesting trips to go on, if we had loads of money we would of gone on more!

Just returned from a girls holiday and all I can say is wow! Everything about the Hotel was fab. The food was good, plently of choice and well cooked, brazian resurant (you need to book) was the best.
The staff in the Hotel could not do enough for you, rooms were spotless and the entertainment team were brilliant.
Met loads of lovely people, everyone dead friendly, the Amercians/Candians could get very loud but were harmless.

Me and my husband have just returned from the riu cancun and it is a truly amazing hotel.
It is extremely clean, the staff are friendly, helpful and are always busy.
The pool areas were great and the beach was stunning.
As a really picky eater I was worried about the food but I shouldn't have been, there is so much choice, there is something for everyone and every night has a different theme so you never have to worry about it getting boring.
The entertainers at the hotel make you feel at home and really welcome and get everyone involved, they are always doing something you can join in on whether its Pilate's on the beach to volleyball in the pool.
The ONLY downfall we thought it had (and its a very small one) is that on some occasions the evening shows were a bit cheesy. we would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone it great for couples, families, honeymooners - you name it!
