If you don’t mind the noise from the main bar area in the evenings then the rooms close to reception/around the big main pool are ideal as their close to everything, pool, daytime entertainment, restaurant, reception, bar etc
Rooms further back behind the gym are better if you have smaller children and prefer not to be disturbed by the evening noise. The pools further back are quieter and the middle pool has a nice splash play area for younger children.
If you have rooms on the lower level you do hear footsteps of people walking around above you.

The resort was very clean.
We only saw one cockroach by the side of a road dead!
Faro main town was beautiful and walking along the beach after a superb meal was bliss!

I would definitely not tell people to go to Maspalomas if they are expecting a night life. You can go into Playa del Ingles but it is so spread out that if you don't know your way around, you may not find what you are looking for.

Maspalomas. Lovely beach. Very windy for the week we were there ( 1st-8th Jan 05.)
Strange as we were speaking to people who spent the same week in Puerto Rico ( which is sheltered ) and they had very little wind. Bring a warm coat as it can be very cold this time of year at night.
Excellent restaurants around the area.

The resort was clean, but because we were there in Jaunary there was not much to at night except form visit holiday world which is an arcade, and has bowling and a fair it is nothing great but it is ok.

Really good area with places that are quite and also busy areas so you can take your choice. Eating out is the main entertainment apart from the hotels own. Very clean beaches and lifeguards in the busier areas all in all very good

The resort Sonnenland was rather quite small but it only took 10 - 15 mins on a bus, and the journey was pleasant. The area was clean and the people were friendly ! The sand dunes at Maspalomas were amazing and were rather clean and there was several people visiting them.

Sonneland is an extremley quiet resort, only of benefit to those who simply love to sit by the pool and nothing else.It is surrouded by motorways and dual carriageways, so every time you venture out of the hotel you are taking your life in hands. Not really a family orientated resort.
The weather over our weeks holiday was good and we did come home with a bit of a tan.Despite being lovers of Tenerife we would defo go back to Gran Caneria, but Puerto rico is the resort we will heading to, as this is more the type of resort we have come to expect and enjoy.
