Well when I had read some of the reviews on this place I thought what I am I letting my self in for, but it was actually ok.
The pool was always cleaned everyday as were the rooms.
The towels were changed everyday and bedding was changed about 4 times when we were their.
The staff were friendly and the food was good for a pool bar.
The noise at night time was really loud music went on until 2 or 3 in the morning people were also jumping in an out the pool at all hours. I personally don't think I would stay here again.

We have just arrived back from a 2 week holiday at the Babalu Apartments Puerto Rico. Whilst we were there several apartments were broken into and substantial amounts of money and belongings were taken. A number of the break ins involved money and valuables being taken from the safes in the apartments and many people suspect that the thefts are linked to the hotel staff.
The accommodation was very basic and the rooms were not cleaned and laundry changed as specified in the brochure.
We also felt there was a health and safety issue regarding the pool area and the number of cats that roam freely. We saw cat excrement in the pool and when we pointed this out to the maintenance they just fished it out with a net and did not close the pool or attempt to put in any extra chemicals to purify the water. They were not interested. The cats also messed on the corridors on a regular basis and crawled and led on the towels on the sunbeds. We counted 20+ cats and many looked flea infested.
The first week of our holiday there was no entertainment at all, the second week a poor attempt at entertainment happened. The in house entertainer tried his best with very little support or equipment from the hotel.
The actual hotel staff were very ignorant at times and unfriendly.
I would definitely not recommend anybody stays here, especially with the thefts that are happening on a regular basis. There are many places to stay that would offer better accommodation and security for a similar price. None of the other guests we spoke to would go back either.
All in all we met some great guests whilst on holiday and made the most of our 2 week stay as best we could, carrying around our money and passports everywhere with us.

The rooms were a decent size, basic but very clean and tidy. Towels were changed every other day.
Went to the pool bar once and they had run out of brandy.
Located at the top of the hill, but close to all bars shops and restaurants, the walk down into Puerto Rico was not too strenuous and beautiful along the way.
The hotel staff were very friendly particularly the lady on reception, who was very helpful on our late arrival.
The only entertainment we heard of was the music around the pool area. The same music was repeated for seven days and seven nights.
We would definitely use this hotel again, the room had beautiful sea views.

Nice apartments if a little small for my family, basic but very clean.
Staff were all very helpful to us and we enjoyed the pools in front of the hotel very much.

We booked this holiday through our local travel agent as it was the cheapest deal we could find in the school holidays. We were a little worried that the apartments are listed as only one star and were even more concerned after reading some of the reviews.
We set of expecting the worst but were very plesantly suprised when we arrived. To respond to some of the problems raised -
Our apartment was on the ground floor and was very well presented.
The room was cleaned 4 times while we were there and the sheets changed three times.
The poolbar played music from 10am till about 11:30pm. The music was at an acceptable level except for the start of happy hour when it was turned up slightly to anounce the start but then returned to a lower level. At about 10pm the music was turned even lower to allow children to sleep.
Externally all apartments were painted white, there are palm trees all around the pool and plants in flower beds.
The pool was cleaned every day at about 8:30am
The beds are quite hard but nothing too difficult to get used to (I recommend taking your own pillow)
There is no kettle in the apartment but we boiled water in the pan.
Over all this apartment deserves at least two stars!!. The only downside is the the balcony of the apartment above is on top of your bedroom. Therefore we were woke a few times by the people moving furniture (chairs/table) around.

Beautiful place to stay cannot believe some reports we are reading. Can only say must be something wrong with them.
Felt very safe returning at night and enjoyed the view. Staff very helpful and friendly. Infact we are toiling to get booked for this year in December.

We have stayed in the Babalu Appartments 6 times over the years and always enjoyed ourselves, the pool is fantastic for learner swimmers a nice gradual walk in deph for children.
Try the chicken sandwiches at the bar we loved them.
The appartment were cleaned daily with friendly staff.
The entertainment was basic but the main entertainment is just over the road, if you want a beach holiday this hotel is not for you.
We are booked to go back august 2008 does anyone know if Dave is stopping on there? been reading reviews sounds great.

The rooms were basic but everything you need! Take your own kettle.....or you can hire one. The staff are very friendly and speak good English.
The views from the hotel balconys were great (especially on room 108, da boy underneath me)Some evening entertainment but not alot.
Pool great...good for all ages! Really close to comerical centres, which have some great restaurants, the best restaurant on the beach was EL GRECO!
Defintly go on the Jeep Safari and the Camels it is fantastic!

In short, a great base if your main priority is cleanliness. Location is top of a hill, so not the best if unfit/disabled, but great if your active! Clean, tidy, well kept, good location for quieter nitelife (near to Europa), but further from busier Commercial Centre (bottom of hill). However, taxis around 3 euros, but its quite a nice walk if you're not in a hurry!
