Last visited this hotel over 25 years ago. Loved it then, and love it now. Staff were very welcoming and helpful (that's the way they are).

Although the hotel wasnt busy, the staff did their utmost to offer the best service they could... from reception, to bar staff, maids and entertainments, well done to all of you !

Food was sometimes a bit repetitive, but there was always something for every kind of taste. I cant believe some of the reviews. Do these people not pick up a brochure before they book ?

It seems as if some of them do not know where Tunisia is !If they wanted Blackpool, that's where they should have gone and left the rest of us to enjoy our holiday in peace.

Thanks to Mohammad, Asheref and Anna for keeping us entertained, when most of the guests couldn't be bothered to do anything, just complain that there was nothing to DO!!!

We will be returning to Tour Khalef again as soon as we can.

first impressions on arrival were pretty good lovely reception area and very pretty decor!!
room itself was adequate and clean could have done with a little updating.
the reception staff were a bit unhelpful at times and the other russians and polish in hotel were very rude.
the location of the hotel was ok it meant u had a little walk into town but if u didnt want to walk there was a tuk tuk train and taxis a plenty.
be aware when u walk into town u get pestered to buy things and if u are two women u will get hassle even more.the beach in hotel was lovely but you get pestered on that aswell.
we used to sit around the pool but the entertainment was total crap all these three lads did was areobics and salsa...........in the evening it didnt get much better.
although there were bad points we still had a good holiday and didnt let this put us off we would visit tunisia again but stay in a different place and hotel.

Returned last night after a week at the Tour Khalif.

The hotel is in a great location beach wise, having its own private strip with free sunbeds, you just tip the guy in charge a couple of Dina.

We found the hotel to be clean on the whole apart from the corridors leading to the lifts/rooms. For some reason this is were they have the pool table. All day this was a haven for the local kids who played pool all evening so you have to squeeze passed them to reach the lift.

The hotel seemed to be frequented by a lot of locals at night, and they outnumbered the other guests. Plus there was a tennis tournament on at the hotel and they were all staying there.

Food was overall quite good. Don't expect to go there and expect English cuisine though, if you want that go to Blackpool/Benidorm. We always found something nice to eat with a good, varied selection. A bit hectic at busy times. Big selection of sweets and ice cream every night. We stayed full board and found the lunch time selection was good, always plenty of salads. You get the same table every meal time and the same waiter, and the service was first class. Main problem we found was the parents who let their children run around the dining room unsupervised and let them get there own ice cream from the buffet. Quite often I witnessed a 6/7 year old with his fingers in the ice cream tub, so we gave it a miss.

Hotel staff were very good, nice and friendly.

There was entertainment every day, dancing karaoke, local dancers etc. plus a resident Thomson couple(the oldest Reps I've ever seen) and they organised trips/dancing for the older holiday makers. There's a young local lad working on the entertainment team called Rami and he was great, never stopped working, organising bingo and the like. He set up the screen for the football so we could all watch England V Israel.(Wish he hadn't bothered, usual dire performance) My wife wanted to bring him home with us but I put my foot down. He's only 18 and works for free during the winter months to make sure he has a paid job in high season.

We went on a Thomson 3 cities tour. Be warned. The morning is mainly about trying to sell you a carpet. They take you to a carpet factory and before you realise it you are in a room were they give you a coffee and go through the whole stock list of carpets available. Don't go in. Have a walk round the market instead. After that though you are taken to a 5* hotel for lunch which is excellent and then onto Eldjem to see the ruins. These are breathtaking and well worth a visit. Very tiring day.

Sousse itself is a very busy town with a port and loads of shops. I think my wife visited every one of them, I have the blisters on my feet to prove it!! The Medina,or market, is an experience in itself. You cannot walk 3 steps without being hassled by the stall holders. If I never hear "Asda Price/Luvvly Jubbly/'ave a butchers/Cheap as Chips again it will be to soon. And you can buy the same stuff at the same or cheaper prices in the shops with out the haggling. Still its all part of the game.

Taxis are dirt cheap. 4 Dina's (about

I shall never stay anywhere else again.

The staff are hilarious, the hotel is comfortable and the food is out of this world.

I can only travel in the winter so the days are short but there is always something going on.

The best day out was to Friguia Park animal reserve and the best way to go is by train but only 2 a day or so stop there, so check at the main station. It is on the main line from Tunis to Sousse.

The hotel itself was quite nice - 'grand' lobby area with plenty of seat's. We weren't greated as nicely as we could have been - our bags were whipped off us without being asked. When we got to our room - it wasn't what we had booked (and paid) for at all. They expected my mum and dad to sleep in the same room as me (25yrs) and my son (we were given bunkbeds). The bunkbeds were not safe for my 4yr old son at all, plus they blocked the whole access to the balcony. On complaining to reception, my mum was expected to pay

Visited Tour Khalef in July and found the weather fantastic.

The location is brilliant, on the the beach which is very clean and safe, the sea was like a bath and the hotel club provided ample entertainment on the beach if you wanted to join in.

Our children found the arobics in the sea very entertaining.

The hotel staff were very nice and friendly if you took the time to talk to them.

The food was always hot and the soup was very good, if you took the time to look around there was always something to eat. (fresh bread, fruit, chips, spag bol).

Not much to do at night, Kids disco a bit repetative, we used to take the tuk tuk train to Port el Kantoui which is a lovely marina with bars and shops. Not so keen on Sousse a bit too hot to walk around a town, and didn't feel so safe.

We would visit Tour Khalef again it was good value for money, its the first time we have ever bought back any spending money, ice cream parlour by the hotel was excellent value for money and nice and cool on a very hot afternoon.

I stayed in Tour Khalef for 2 weeks in June 2006 with my 7 year old daughter, we booked through a Thompson late deal.

We found the hotel and staff excellent throughout our stay and would strongly recommend it to others.

When we arrived at reception my daughter felt poorly after the long day travelling, despite a queue we were hurried through the check in proceedure and the porter had quickly guided us and our bags into the spacious room.

There was plenty of wardrobe space and the bathroom was clean, the shower had pretty consistant water pressure and temperature most of the time, we had a small balcony with a table and 2 chairs, this overlooked the huge terraces and gardens and provided us a postcard view of the coastline.

We were 5 floors up and there are another 2 storeys above, if you are with small children be aware that the balcony chairs provide perfect climbing frames and the railing is not that high.

The TV in the room requires a remote for use, this could be provided by reception for a 30 dinar deposit, we didn't bother as we had taken our stereo with us and there are power points there to use.

Some rooms have a small fridge in the cupboard under the TV.

The rooms were cleaned daily though sometimes the maid walks straight in without a knock! towels were changed, a 48 hr laundry service is available through the maid at reasonable cost too (cost me 11 dinars for 7 t-shirts and a pair of shorts).

A safety deposit box in a room next to reception costs 1 dinar per day and 30 deposit, you can change your stirling and travellers cheques there for the fixed standard rate, make sure you get a receipt though, the first night I didn't and got 20 dinars fewer than I should've.The rate was around 2.4 to the pound when I was there.

At the front of the hotel is a dirt path to the gates, outside there is a number of shops, bars and restaurants, there are a couple of cash points here, several phone boxes too.

I particularly liked the indian restaurant, there was also a fast food 'Imbiss' that did burgers and chicken nuggets for fussy eating kids.Be prepared for the many street traders and flower sellers on an evening though.

The hotel main entrance opens into a huge expanse of marble, there are plenty of sofas and chairs in the lobby which expands in to 2 huge bar areas, one for paying guests the other for all inclusive.

The pay bar is nearer the dancefloor area, where the entertainment takes place, beside the bar is a pool table and a few old arcade machines, it costs 2.6dn for a Celtia beer and 1.7dn for a bottle of Coke or 7up, the spirits and are sold a lot cheaper at the sister hotel 100 yds along the road, expect to pay at least 7-10 dinars for a small shot of Whiskey or Vodka wherever you go, brandy is little cheaper at around 4-7dn.

Each night around 9pm there is a kids disco, they sell discs of the music they play for 5 dinars, by the end of the first week thankfully the novelty had worn off with my daughter, the same annoying songs and the accompanying dances are played around the pools/beaches and in Sousse centre with seemingly unrepentant regularity.

I thought 'Star Trekkin' had been laid gracefully to rest in the mid 80's but, oh no it's back with avengence along with Black Lace's 'Superman' and the like!

The entertainment was pretty good all in all if you get in the spirit, the band was surreal, singing 'Money for nothing' with arabic accents and a Tunisian Noddy Holder lookalike, there was also a very good nailbed and broken glass standing act, a belly dancer, a karaoke, more dancers etc. etc.

If you pay for your drinks you can use the waiter service, they do expect a tip though!

One waiter told me they get paid roughly 320 dns a month (

The corridors in the hotel were dirty and in need of decoration.

During the full 2 weeks there was a strong smell of paint. One morning we found a large window had been broken, glass all over. This was not repaired until several days later.

The toilets were usually clean early morning, however later in the day, toilets were blocked and the smell was awful. Soap dispensors did not work so you had to lift the lid off every time you needed to wash your hands.

Our room was ok however could have been cleaner. Then bathroom was in need of upgrade.

The dining area was filthy, table cloths were rarely changed. The decor was dismal with little ventilation. There appeared to be a strict regime for seating at a particular table however it was not unkommo to arrive for a meal and find others at your allocated table. The food was worse than diabolical. I advised my husband on several occasions not to touch particular food as it looked uncooked. There was very little food our daughter could eat. We were both ill during our stay. Our daughter became ill two days before leaving.

On our return home she was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning. This is currently being investigated by Thompson solicitors.

I am appalled Thompson can promote this as a 3-4 star family hotel.

My wife and I have just returned on the 14th May 2006 after spending another 14 nights at this hotel.

Our flight was from Doncaster which was excellent, we arrived at the hotel around 2300, there was no food available but the bars were open until 0100 so water etc was available.

Our room number 1111, was a double which we had paid extra for, good size, good bathroom with bath/shower etc, towels changed daily on request, bed linen changed twice weekly, maid service good and room kept clean. There was a television in the room but the majority of channels consisted of Russian programmes, the one and only English channel worked 2 days out of the 14, even after many complaints.

Our room was quiet but we heard numerious other guests complaining of alot of noise keeping them awake the majority of the night, mainly in the other wing which seemed to house the Russians plus some Thomson guests.

On arrival the reception gave you a blue card for half board guest and a red card for all inclusive guests plus a very uncomfortable wristband.

On your first visit the the restaurant you handed your card to the restaurant manager who allocated you a table for the rest of your stay.

The system they have adopted in the restaurent is not very workable as blue card eat prior to red cards and if you are a slow eater or late for your meal times or want an earlier meal this is when problems arise, which we experienced and often witnessed at nearly every meal time, regret four persons do not fit on a two person table!!!!! especially when the other two are Russian.

The food choice, presentation and quality was good on the buffet service, BUT you must ensure that you are not overwhelmed by the number of RUSSIANS in the hotel, during our stay the hotel was at full capacity and this meant in the region of 1300 guests and 96% of them were Russian, they are ignorant, abusive and rude people even towards there own, they push, shove and have no manners whatsoever.

At meal times they pile their plates high with every thing available and then leave the majority of it, whilst we were there strawberries were in season and alongside the strawberry dish was fruit dishes for them but no the Russians used large soup dishes and could still not get enough strawberries, it was really an eye opener, we hear about Germans but Russians are many times worse.

We have been to this hotel a number of times and have never ever experienced this type of conduct, the Russians have and will continue to spoil this hotel, they are hated by the majority of staff but in the end it is money that talks, the majority are all inclusive.

The all inclusive system is antiquated, as stated earlier you are tagged on arrival and each time you have anything from the all inclusive sections your wrist band bar code is swiped by a hand machine which then generates your details on the computer but very often this does not work so then it is down to signing for whatever you have.

The entertainment team has been replaced since our last visit and can only be described as very poor.

The hotel is situated with sun terraces, lawned areas leading to the excellent pool/childrens play area with local bazaar and fantastic beach beyond, pool and beach is serviced by bars which serve snacks and drinks including all inclusive.

The pool is excellent, good size with plenty of sun bathing areas, sun beds, mattresses and parasols available free of charge but they are very strick that no hotel room towels are used around the pool or on the beach.

The beach is patrolled by members of staff who keep beach traders at waters edge so you do not get any hassel.

You cannot bring or take out of the country any Tunisian Dinars, on arrival you change your sterling at the hotel and on departure you exchange your Dinars at the airport, it is an offence to import of export Dinars.

It is not necessary to tip the staff, just be polite and they will appreciate this alot more, Russians do not tip and they do not have any manners either.

Thomson reps okay, didnt have much to do with them,
did not go to the welcome party.

One guest summed up the holiday as a Russian 18 to 30 club holiday, whereby they had just been let out from the box and had no idea how to conduct themselves they were disgraceful.

We also understand that during the Winter months the hotel guests are mainly British, I just hope and pray this to be true.

And the weather........two full day and nights of heavy rain the other twelve days excellent sun.
