Stayed here for last two weeks of August.

Bad points -

Room never cleaned, only bedding changed. Floors and patio area were filthy when we arrived.

Food cold and you had to heat it yourself in microwave.
cockroaches and mice in dining room, very aggressive

Spaniards filled the hotel.

Entertainment was useless and people were crammed in like sardines.

Good points -

The pool was huge and the kids loved it.

This place at best is a 2 star

We stayed at the Monika Holidays complex in Cala Finestrat on an all inclusive basis.

This is the third time that we have been to this hotel and we are already booked up for next summer.

Our son loves the pool and the fact that he can have chips and nuggets when he fancies at the poolside. The pool is fab and always clean even had new loungers this year which were really comfy. The hotel is very clean as are the rooms these are cleaned daily and towels are left every day if you need them. The bedding is changed every three days which isn

We went to use the swimming pool (which looked fab in the brochure) the morning after we arrived.First impressions were that it looked fantastic with a childrens shallow section and water slides in another. Within 5 mins of being there my 3yr old had slipped over too many times to count. The tiles surrounding the pool were incredibly slippery and the rounded edged into the pool just the same. Children around the pool were always falling over and we spoke to many parents who were very unhappy about this. It steeped quite quickly in depth. We made a complaint to senior management who quite seriously told us that we were the first people to ever complain!. (We dont believe that for a minute). Even children wearing non slip shoes still fell.

Food very repetative and slushy. Barely cooked or warm. We were all-inclusive but ate out some times as we just couldn't face eating at the hotel.( We can recommend a place called Simple the Best for lovely food 5 mins walk away). Some staff didn't bother with seeing the all-inclusive card given to you and then some other staff would be totally over the top asking for an individual card for each drink asked for eg. four drinks - four cards!

We found most of the staff to be completely unhelpful and some were quite rude. How much does it cost to smile? We went to the outdoor restaurant by the poool for lunch. My son wanted sauce with his and when the bottle was found to be empty my husband took it to the waitress and asked for more. She looked at him and said "No" and walked away.

After about the third day there they began huge maintenance work on the hotel, Cutting trees around the pool so therefore some areas were out of bounds. Painting and cleaning everywhere and dismantling a stage area on a patio by the pool at 6.45am. One time they even threw chlorine crystals into the swimming pool mid-morning whilst people were swimming. When a holiday maker complained to management about how dangerous this was he was asked if he had a chemical testing kit!
It seemed that the beginning of the main season was starting for them and wouldn't recommend going to this hotel before mid June. New sun loungers were arriving but kept wrapped. Most of the sunloungers we were currently using were broken.

One day we heard screaming in the pool and then saw a lifeguard fishing out a rat with his net. Other rats were seen around the pool area.

No mention was made to holiday makers that air-conditioning was swithed on on the 10th of June. We found out the day before we left that you could request a remote for a deposit of 15 euros.

Entertainment was 3o mins for childrens disco at 9.30 which always went down well and then usually a lady on an organ. A couple of good acts were on in the time we were there.

We were very glad our holiday came to an end and were looking forward to coming home after the first week. We paid a lot of money for the five of us to go and were extremely disappointed. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone especially familys with young children.

For 3rd consecutive year we stayed in Monika Hotel.

This year food was undercooked or burnt and cold, a microwave was provided for you to reheat to desired level -roll on Salmonella. Bombarded without notification, of o.a.p Spanish who pushed English children out of seats to claim as their own, entertainment aimed especially for them.

Then 250 Spanish children were left to run amok, keeping us up all night by using lifts and banging on doors.Verbal complaints were made to staff, no apologies given, were told to put up with it.

Up to 40min wait for a drink, countless times there were no clean glasses and were given a small plastic cup - 1 each, it was a case of swig it off and join the back of the queue for the next before dehydration set in.

Also had to complain about rats running by the pool, puddles of rain made the dance floor& dining hall a health & safety issue, there was no barrier or warning put in place even after a accident occured. The pool side drains were raised yet another health & safety concern, this was reported but no safety barriers were placed for warning.

I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy, I have made a written complaint, if you dare brave this hotel take cotton wool for ears and do not eat the food, go self catering, also take account of local evening entertainment as the children get half an hour, then its organ music until about 11pm, if your lucky they put an act on occasionally.

It appears the hotel is concerned with numbers and how much money it can make, you receive very little in return, and the customer service is atrocious. Feeling robbed springs to mind.

Staff at hotel very friendly on arrival at 9.00pm. Could find no restaurants with any edible food left. This however was not a bad thing as on the following day when we did visit the restaurant we found the food to be disgusting. Re-heated from the day before in many cases and not very well re-heated at that. It is a good job there were plenty of decent restaurants in resort as we just could not stomach what was on offer in the hotel.

Bars were ok in hotel with majority of staff very friendly. Teenagers being allowed by their parents to run riot through the hotel doesn't help your enjoyment and this again prompted us to stay out in resort most evenings. Would dread to think what it's like at the height of summer !!

Would under no circumstances recommend this hotel to anyone.

Arrived at 04.00 give key card told to find our room. When found there were no lights on we had to fummble with the card and finally got in. Rooms were a good size, fresh towels, every day changed bedding once while we were there hot water always went cold after we had only bathed 2 kids leaving us with cold freezing water.

The hotel looked shut most of the bars were closed, chairs and sun loungers were broke.

Went for food wish I had stayed in my room with a packet of crisps it were nasty complained to hotel staff they just stared as if they did not speak any Engish I will not be staying or reccommening it to anybody.

We arrive at the hotel about 1 am and found the reception staff very nice and got a nice welcome, gave us a keycard type key and explained where the apartment was and how to get to it, but to return to the reception in the morning to exchange it for our all inclusive card.

As an all inclusive / Accommodation On Arrival we were very pleased to find that we had the penthouse suite with three double bedrooms, two bath/shower rooms, sitting area with dining table, lovely reception hall and fully fitted kitchen, what for just two of us, felt like getting on the phone and inviting a few friends. Only thing that was missing was a balcony, but being all inclusive we werent in the room too long.

Found the hotel clean, with work men wandering around the pool area cleaning all the time. Even seen a woman cleaning the reception area at 1.30 am one night. our apartment was cleaned every day with towel change every day and our sheets changed once over the week. The reading information you get on arrival states that the kitchen is excluded, well ok she's a maid not a skivey in my books! quite easy to rinse a cup or glass out.

We had no complaints what so ever about the food, thoroughly enjoyed the tapas night and a great selection to suit anyone, you wouldnt leave hungry in my opinion. Lots of wine, lager, sangria and soft drinks to accompany any meal.

The hotel staff we found very friendly and spoke good english.

I cant say too much about the entertainment as we found it was the usual run of the mill stuff, kiddies disco then 10 pm spanish dancers, magic show etc etc, as it was inside I found the area far tooo small to accommodate the size of the hotel, and far too warm even though it was the begining of October it was hot. Only thing I can say is they could do with more staff serving at the bars, big q's with one member of staff serving. We generally sat outside until around 11ish then crossed over the road and went to bounders karaoke bar until 2/3 am

We would go back again for a nice wee quiet winter week

We arrived at 11pm at night. We were given a key card for our room with very little instruction on how it worked (we had to figure it out by trial and error) and no idea where to go to our room. It is a vast hotel in several blocks and you can easily get lost.

The room was very spacious on floor 3 block 4. It had a kitchen with a four ring hob, microwave, fridge and sink hidden in a cupboard! No kettle which is bad for a self catering apartment. The bathroom had a bath/shower, toilet, bidet and sink. There was a main bedroom and a pull out bed settee in the main living room. Air conditioning was the best I've ever had in Spain and a free safety deposit box which is very unusual! However the fridge never got really cold and the bottom of the door was coming off so it never shut properly until we figured out a way to wedge it. Complained twice but it never got fixed.

Apartment cleaned and bed changed only once a week but towels were changed every day. Had to ask if you wanted any more toilet roll too as they didn't leave it as standard even if you ran out! After the first week our key stopped working because they had taken us off the computer! Balcony doors would not shut properly either so room was never really secure. Good job we had a safety deposit box. Again complaint went unheeded.

Our rep was next to useless. She was hardly ever there and when she was she didn't seem interested. Booked for the new Cowboy show and she didn't even know how much it cost so we had to wait to pay her until the day of the show. She didn't turn up so we had to hang around waiting for her. Bus was half an hour late picking us up but it is a good show and I would recommend it.

I thought the pool was quite dangerous. You had to walk in down a slope (not a gradual one either) which was very slippery and getting out was scary. Also the water went from feet on the bottom to over your head in one step so had to be very careful not to get out of your depth. If your a nervous swimmer like me I wouldn't recommend it! Plenty of sunbeds though you had to get there early as the good old reservation system with towels is very much alive and kicking here!

Staff were generally friendly but not very helpful. Only seemed interested in the hoards of Spanish that were there, who were on the whole quite rude!

Didn't use the bars at night. The entertainment was practically non-existent, seemed to be karaoke and mini disco all the time.

I wouldn't stay here again.

Arrived at this hotel on the 11th June, the first 4 nights the entertainment was indoors in a really hot bar which made it very uncomfortable and wasn't worth suffering the heat for so we sat outside in the terrace bar where it was cool. On the fifth night the entertainment moved outside to this bar and drastically improved, some really good magic shows and even a contortionist plus the usual kids disco.

The hotel rooms were apartment style with a separate bedroom for the kids which was the main reason we chose this hotel, that and the pool which was absolutely fantastic. There was activities and competitions going on regularly for the kids and adults throughout the day. My kids didn't use the kids club much but had a look in and there was a room for the under 7's which had a soft play area with a slide and ballpool and a room for 7-12's which had facepainting the normal colouring-in and games and 2 playstations.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful with an English duty manager although our rep was atrocious but that was down to MyTravel not the hotel. The breakfast was lovely lots of choice, full english, cereal, continental, fruit and yogurt. Lunch and dinner always had a good selection, lots of different salads a choice of two soups and a good hot selection, obviously some days better than others, plus desserts to die for. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute taxi ride from Benidorm old town cost about
