Resort is very clean. There was no entertainment out of the complex, only a few bars, restaurant one shop.

Beach was just at the bottom of where we was staying, nice little sandy cove with sunbeds to hire and a hut where you could eat or drink.

This resort was what we expected, quiet, with not much to do away from the hotel and only a few bars. This is what we wanted but don't go there if you want a non stop party.

The beach was lovely though we only spent one day there as our son preferred the kids pool at the hotel.

There are three supermarkets and a large gift shop along with some restaurants. Ocean was ok but we preferred to leave the resort in the evening and catch one of the buses. (fantastic bus service always on time and good value, under 4's travel free) We ate at Cala'n Bosch and Cala Blanca and there are good places there, especially El Vespro at Cala Blanca where you can watch the sunset as you eat.

As well as the bus service there are numerous taxis, they have set charges and you may find they are cheaper than a family getting a bus.

All in all a great base to explore a lovely friendly area and I would definately consider going back. We only got home yesterday and i've picked up a brochure already!!

THE RESORT:

VERY quiet. Not a lot going for Sa Caleta. Round the corner there is a “commercial centre” with a fairly decent souvenir shop, a Spanish/English restaurant another bar, a car hire place and an Irish bar (which tended to show all the SKY football that was on). Across the road there was also OCEAN’S fish restaurant complete with bouncy castle for customer use. And that was about it !!! There is a very large hypermarket but this was about a 25 min walk each way so my advice was to visit this if you hired a car. One point that I don’t think anyone had mentioned before is the new Cuitadella by-pass that opened while we were there (Mid May 06). We hired a car and we had to skim the outskirts of Cuitadella to get to the main road that runs through the island, but the following day they had opened the nearly complete road that avoids Cuitadella completely and comes out about 5 km outside the town. My advice would be to travel to some of the other resorts by using the BRILLIANT “Red and Yellow” Torres buses that go all over the island. A 5 km trip to Cuitadella from Sa Caleta was a set rate of 1 Euro 20 cents (about 80p) you pay the driver going but need to buy tickets from the wooden ticket booth at the bus “square” in Cuitadella for the journey back. They ran every 20-30 mins. You could probably get to practically anywhere on the island using a combination of buses. We went to Cala n Bosch down in the bottom left hand corner of the island. We were DUMBFOUNDED by the resort and were GUTTED we didn’t book Cala nBosch with all the MANY restaurants and bars around the MAGNIFICENT marina. The main apartment/Hotels were also just round the corner overlooking the sandy beech. This was a resort with EVERYTHING within about 200 yards !!! And if your are going to Cala nBosch and are afraid of missing the World Cup (which was why I went in May !!!) a lot of the bars (The Britannia, Chaplins Bar, The Bowling Bar - complete with a 4 lane bowling alley !!) ALL showed SKY sports and would therefore have BBC and ITV.

SHOPPING:

Menorca has A LOT of leather shops/factory outlets dotted around resorts and also on the main road that runs the length of the island. There is also a few Lladro outlets inc a BIG Lladro shop on the main road.
If your in Sa Caleta and are a smoker your best bet would be to use the machines as I overheard another resident (Dave Stewart look-alike from Eurhythmics !!! ) moaning that the only tobacconists close by was in Cuitadella (www.tabacsadrian.com). On site shop was ok, but Betterbuy shop round the corner was better but the Hypermarket was best.

THE REP’S NIGHT !!!!

I don’t want to sound condescending, but…. It was ABSOLUTELY ABYSMAL !!. 126 Euro’s (about £85 for myself my wife and 6 year old). We were tiold it was soooooo unmissable, but now I think it is sooooooo VERY much missable !!! The only upside was that it was 5 km up the road. It was supposed to be ALL of First Choice’s reps putting on a show complete with 3 course meal. Well…. When the coach got there my first thought was…..”but this is some old shack in the middle of nowhere” !! It was supposed to be a nightclub. We walked in and to be fair it did look fairly well kitted out, but then I was “accosted” by a waiter who seconded as a doorman as he demanded to see our tickets and then INSISTED our 6 year old go off to some kids club when she wanted to sit with us (we didn’t pay for her to go in some kids club !!). He let us in after asking us twice and us saying NO twice !!. Sat down at a long 20 seater table (there were 3 tables of 20) and were then subjected to THE …MOST …..SUBSTANDARD food…..EVER !! Starter was 2 slices of packet melba toast with pate and shredded lettice with 2 slices of tomatoe and ONE slice of ham and ONE slice of cheap cheese. After suffering that, we were then served chicken….. That’s one leg and one wing. With tinned veg and overcooked potatoes No decent cut of chicken !! Left a lot of mine and instead awaited desert …. Wish I hadn’t bothered. Crème Caramel…. Complete with tinned fruit cocktail and “gritty” crème caramel. I took one bite and left the rest. The couple opposite didn’t even start and were of the same opinion as me !! They also advertised “ free flowing Sangria”. Yep… CHEAP AND NASTY weak looking Sangria. I didn’t bother and instead settled for a soft drink to wash what little I had eaten. Went to the bar and was “belittled” by the girl behind the bar. Ordered a diet coke and she poured this fromm the pump instead of a bottle. Sat down and started to drink. ALMOST spat it out as it was so cheap and nasty. I also left this as well (which cost me 2 Euro’s). went back and ordered a bottle of lager as I couldn’t realy go wrong with that.

Sat back to enjoy the reps performing, but the evening started with some glammed up 40 ish… female that looked very out of place in some shack of a nightclub. She was ok and sung well. Then there was the Spanish dancers/singers. Loose use of the word “singers” as the girl MIMED through a rendition of Chicago’s “All that jazz”. That took us up to half way… and still no sign of the reps. The MC on the microphone (some “I love myself” idiot called Sebastian) had introduced the acts and then gave us a break ….of about 3 minutes THEN the reps took to the stage. They were sooooooo amateurish but we all thought they were MUCH better entertainment than the previous 2 acts. Plenty of double entendres with sailed over the kids heads as they sat on the hard floor with a couple of kids reps watching …for over 2 and a half hours !!!! Poor kids. FINALLY finished at 11:30pm with most of the kids dead on their feet having been there since 7:30...some bored to tears. All in all a VERY poor show and I would THOROUGLY recommend anyone thinking of going that they DON’T as it was a TOTAL waste of money.

All in all I would give the Sa Caleta Playa Apartments about 6 out of 10. If I went back to Menorca I would almost definitely go to Cala nBosch for the Marina and the close proximity of just about EVERYTHING.

Family with 2 teenagers 13 and 1 8 year old although Menorca as a whole is quiet we enjoyed the fact that the sunbeds were plentiful and free (no towels on them at 6am etc).

Our Children made many friends as did we because of closeness of hotel, Our room which slept 6 had two showers (heaven with 2 teenage daughters).

Staff were not only friendly but contributed to make our holiday excellent even though the weather was not the best during our stay. Would definately stay there again.

Would recommend it to a family/couple who want to chill out during the day and make great friends during the night.

Entertainment although a bit sparce was really good (3 times a week, probably more in high season).

Go for it - make your own entertainment or just chill!.

Sa Caleta was a lovely clean area rather quiet well worth going for people who want a quiet holiday, but for the beach lover it is a tiny beach need to go early to get a good spot.

The area around the hotel complexes is kept very clean and was a pleasure to walk around. Bus services were excellent and always were on time had no problems getting around.

We did notice the amount of new roads and buildings being built so I dont know how long this area will remain quiet.

There is very little to do in the resort, the commercial centre is 2 restaurants, 2 bars and a gift shop.

There are 2 small coves with small sandy areas

There are great bus services from the resort, across the island

the resort was cleaned throughout and each morning they even disinfected the floors around the poolside and hosed them down, entertainment although a bit full on for us grown ups my two daughters loved it and the little one wore herself out dancing every night!!!the cove was lovley for the girls to play safe although the beach wasnt very clean there was a small bar and the man who worked alone did lovley pizzas and sandwiches...the bigger beach further up was cleaner but much busier..not many resturants in the area though..we are used to being able to walk and pick a different one every night...and had it just have been myself and my husband with the girls..we would have eaten at the hotel everynight, becuase the girls were entertained and it wasnt far to go to bed!!!

Very clean. Recycling bins everywhere. Bus service brilliant.

Resort on the quiet side, could do with a few more bars/restaurants. Sa Quaddra restaurant pleasant as was Es Garbell. T.V Football showing at the J'Olly Barrell bar next to the Es Garbell also a gift shop.

Opposite the above is the Ocean restaurant/bar with a bouncy area for the youngsters. Hypermarket close by.

If you dont want 18-30 holiday, this is ideal.
