Just returned last sunday from Belair and for the cost found it to be good value
Stayed half board over the week only had breakfast once struggled to find something for my daughter not overly impressed with choice but others may find it ok
Evening meals were a lot better good choice of soup salad dishes hot dishes pasta etc and great deserts no problems getting a table most evenings and service of drinks etc was good

Room faced the pool area so not much noise from bars etc room was basic but clean and maids did very good job sheets changed every couple of days room has air con and heating with controls and small balcony overall very comfortable

Hotel location is stuck between Hammamet and yasmine hammamet so to get to either you need taxi which are cheap and plentiful yasmine is newer part custom built and is nice to walk around the marina and the beach area

Found all the staff to be very good and helpful from reception to bar to animation staff all work hard to try and ensure you have good holiday

Not sure i would like to go in the height of summer as pool area may get crowded but the beach is nearby

Overall good value for money clean and no major concerns

just returned yesterday from tunisia. had such an enjoyable time at the bel-air, we are going back next year.

after our coach transfer [which took nearly 2 hours, but, we dropped others off at other hotels] we were greeted by a friendly guy at reception who offered us a glass of lemon drink which, was much appriciated.

Having checked in and been escorted to our room we found it to be clean and well proprtioned. we had a fantastic size bed which was quite comfortable [for someone with a bad back!].

After a few drinks to get us in the holiday mood!, it was dinner time.

The evening dinners all week were excellent, we were going to go out to eat, but, the quality was so good we got back to the hotel to eat after our days out!.

However, breakfast for me was limited. As i cannot eat dairy products, i was limited to dry toast, baguette and chopped up garlic frankfurter sausages. My girlfriend on the other hand was fine with eggs, tomatoes, omlettes etc. For those of a continental bent there were the usual suspects [coissant, pain-au-chocolat, yoghurt etc]. washed down with plenty of good quality coffee.

After a day out and a meal it was time for a beer!. all the bars in the hotel are staffed with really good waiters and bar staff, if you want to watch football or rugby they were more than happy to switch the t.v over for you.

with regards the hotel entertainment, we did not check much out, but, the 'snake charmer' seemed like an excuse for the in-house photographer to take shots as the 'charmer' ran around wrapping reptiles around people necks. The highlight was the one girl who out bellydanced one of the professional bellydancers!

Overall the quality of the service we received from the chamber maids, bar staff, waiters, reception and even the hotel manager was the best treatment i have received outside the states!.

my conclusion, an excellent hotel, fantastic friendly management and staff, i would recommend the hotel bel-air to anyone

This is a bit late but here it is!!

I stayed here last August and had the best time of my life. Yea, the hotel was a bit dated (has been refurbished and finished today- new bathrooms, double glazing patio doors, halls redone etc) but sure your never in it. We loved going to the beach, sitting by the pool and going outside to watch the entertainment at night. I'm sorry to read that some people had a bad time but you must be REALLY fussy. We are going back again this August and probably the next and next and next......

We booked & paid for room for 4 people with pool view (based upon previous reviews). I am English but my second language is French.

Been to Hammamet 3 times so knew what to expect.
Although we never expect anything as its a foreign country at the end of the day.

The Bad

We arrived at 4am on the Saturday morning after arriving by private transfers (excellent by the way). They werent expecting us.

They only had one room left (that was interjoining with another for the kids). Which they put us in. This wasnt the room we had booked or paid for, but one that was above the Cheers bar and opposite alot of nightclubs. None of the doors locked, either internal (to the corridor) or external (to balcony). The rooms were not even clean. There were things in the bed to make us think that the sheets hadnt been cleaned. We were devastated. We had paid alot of money to go to this hotel, all of our hearts sunk.
Promptly went down to reception to be told that I 'there was no mention of the poolside view that we had paid extra for' and having asked them to provide me with the booking paperwork that I had previously given him, I showed him exactly where it said the correct rooms. He said that there ws nothing he could do as there was nothing else available. He told me to come back at 10am and they would do something about it. None of us got ANY sleep that night, being very tired having travelled for at 15 hours. It was sooo noisey. It was like having a club in your room. It was awful.

IN the morning we were told to return again after 12 and then again after 1. Eventually a room was ready for us to go to, which was at the other end of the hotel. This was great. For the first week it was very quiet. The second week the lifts didnt work and everyone was using the stairs adjacent to our room (nothing there to stop the door from slamming unfortunatley) So from about 10pm - 10am there was constant noise from the slamming of the door and very noisy people - who lack respect, but who understandably are on holiday. Unfortunately the room was opposite the stairwell.

We were accused of not paying for drinks in the restaurant and I was followed to the entertainment area and in front of everyone, was told that 'I really HAVE to pay for the drinks that we had' - I had to argue with them that I had seen my husband pay for them but to no avail they continued to argue with me. When my husband arrived back I told him and he went into the restaurant, demanded to see the the head waiter and the waiters and demanded that they admit we had already paid, which they did.

At the Four Seasons bar, we were given drinks we didnt ask for, at first we just paid for them thinking it ws a silly mistake, but when I even requested in french for Muscat (aperitif wine) I was given an opened bottle of Dry Muscat - which was horrid, we paid for it and had a little bit before giving it away to someone else. The next time I ordered Muscat in French I had a battle with them as I could see the 'right muscat' onthe shelf. They pretended they didnt know what I was talking about and tried yet again to give me a bottle of the Dry wine, which I was not going to have and pay for again. The waiters were at the bar and also argued that I had told them what I wanted in french and english - they argued to help us.

Unfortunately we found that the everywhere in the hotel except for the 4 Seasons waiters and the Cheers bar, tried to rip us off. We understand that to them we may appear to be rich and based on their low income and very low living expenses it may appear so, but we had been saving for a year to come here and it was our first holiday with my step children as we usually travel alone.

We went to the new Medina (Yasmine) one evening, which was really good but unfortunately they are still very 'male' orientated and both me and my step daughter (only 9) where pushed, kicked, shoved and I was even pushed with the feet of a chair (chair in the air)to get out of the way of a men.

Got stung by Jelly -fish, but the big white sort. Which didnt even feel like an ant bite, nothing to worry about, although looking at one with your goggles on is a bit scarey. I expected to see the tiny ones here which give you a bigger sting, but the big white ones and also portuguese man of war are found frequently here (although more so, at the resorts further south)

The Good

The animation Team, they were absolutely brilliant! If they came to England they would become famous! They were very attentive with the children, they included everyone in their activities (young, small and older), And the all the entertainment was put on by them apart from the Belly Dancing of course, but I am sure if asked they would show you - they were that good. We will be keeping in touch with the team.

The 4 Seasons Waiters, three in particular were great and in the second week along with the animation team really helped to make our holiday

The food in the restaurant, we loved it, yes lots of people are very picky and after seeing alot of bad reviews on here, we expected the worse. I did also see someone wretching - they obviously didnt like it, not sure where they came from but there was something for everyone, fish, meat, veg, salad, cakes, mouse - it was really lovely and they alternated between chips and potatoes daily, the cakes changed daily, the breakfast was continental of course - croisants, cereal, eggs, sausages, bread, tea, coffee, fruit juice and hot chocolate- exactly what you would hope for on hol to another country.

The Beach Restaurant

The people were absolutely lovely. The Barbcue on a Wednesday night is a night not to be missed! Really fantastic. Tunisian Dancing, Food and fun. Every night is party night, the other nights they are always open - alot of nights, there are locals, which for us was better as we really got to meet some lovely locals and learn more about their culture.

The Medina - at night

Wonderful Art exhibition is on at the moment (Aug07). No haggling here though, which was nice. We bought a lovely picture made out of sand - which is amazing. It was like an underground city. Very cool, very nice, alot to see and buy if you wanted.

The owls

There were two owls that perched on a balcony below, very small but very lovely and interesting.

The Roman Ruins Excursion

Fantastic if you like Roman history. Brilliant, we loved it. We also saw an owl sat on a rock right next to where I was standing. lovely.

We enjoyed our holiday, although we had a few problems. Most were ironed out very quickly.

We wont be returning but that will give us an opportunity to try another country. We met some lovely people and will keep in touch with them always.

Your holiday is what you make it. We enjoyed it in the end.

What can I tell you, the only thing is go there. I have been 3 times now and planning to go back again next year.

As many people have said the staff are very helpful the entertainment team are out of this world they work long hours catering for everybody all day and all night.

The food is great with a good choice.

The rooms are better now, I remember the first time I went I was at the front where the noisy bars are and heard it most of the night, but since I last went they had double glazing doors put on and its quiet now most nights.

I would sit on the balcony having a drink watching everything that was going on.

There are some good bars and restaurants and shops near by, short taxi journey to the main towns very very cheap.

The beach is only a 5 min walk lots to do and eat and drink very clean too.

I have met some very nice people there they are so laid back and friendly.

There are also lots of trips to go on camel riding mmmmmmmmm stiff bum haha, quad biking if you like it.

I enjoyed it next time I think we are going to try the Sahara dessert trip looking forward to it cant wait really enjoyed the stay at hot belair recommend it to anyone.

We had an excellant time in this amazing hotel! the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was nice and there was plenty of choice. The entertainment was by far the best aspect of the hotel as it was fun for not just kids but adults aswell. We particularly liked the entertainer zico as he was always friendly and talking to us. The location was good as it was jst ashort distance from the beach and the main town with also a selection of shops and bars. The only thing bad about the location was the british bar played loud music right through the night and it was sometimes hard to sleep. The place was to a high standard on cleanliness and the rooms were cleaned regularly. We will definately be visiting this hotel in the near future and thank-you to all the staff and entertainers who helped to make this holiday a very enjoyable and fun filled holiday!

The hotel was clean and tidy, beds were changed daily and clean towels were supplied daily. The maids made an extra effort with creative displays of bedding and the kids pyjamas.

Breakfast was basic, but always something to enjoy. Evening meals were excellent, loads to choose from, hot piping dishes, fresh salads and the puddings were wonderful.

The hotel is a short distance from the beach which was between the main town of Hammammet and Yasmine Hammamet (the 5 star resort - very nice). We walked for miles in both directions, lots to do.

Wouldn't have wanted to stay at the main resort of Hammammet, Bel Air was ideal.

Hotel staff were very good, had a lot of fun with our children aged 16,15 and 11, and us. Worked very hard, very nice people.

Nino should be on the telly - a star. Entertainment was okay, the hotel entertainment team worked hard and we enjoyed ourselves.

We went on the two day trip to the Sahara which was brilliant, went to visit loads on the way there but the camel trip along the Sahara was well enjoyed by us all, wow!

We would visit this hotel again and definitely Tunisia, however we loved Yasmine and would be keen to try there next time.

We booked this holiday before checking on here all the bad reports about this place. We read all the reports about music etc but just thought it was the odd few people.
Please note that I'm not the person to complain normally. I love my holidays and couldn't wait to go, despite being a little concerned. So we asked the travel agent to make sure we were put in a quiet room as we had a 7month old baby.

How can I explain how awful the BEL AIR really is??? We turned up at night, and I put my little girl n her cot, only to notice that a WHOLE bar was missing in the side, easy enough for a 7month old to slip her arm and upper body out of. I stormed downstairs crying my heart out to be met by a FRENCH travel rep, who could hardly understand me, she came upstairs saw the cot, and immediately went down and asked the staff to change it (I only realised later that she didn't even fill out a report about the COT being unsafe (hence me crying as my little girl had fallen through the bar slightly and screamed for a few minutes in fright.) The cot was changed and replaced with another cot in which the mattress was too small, we actually had to shove pillows between the mattress and edge of the cot so she didn't fall down the gap, even the rep wasn't pleased (but still didn't fill out a report!!!) and we were put above Cheers Bar!!!!! Blaring Music until 2am!!!! That stopped but then we had the music from the British Bar opposite until 4:30 am!!!! I complained next day to the day manager and he said, he would try to move us but we would have to wait for 4 days !!!

My 7mth old daughter cried and cried and cried, I ended up taking her downstairs to the lobby and rocking her in her buggy to get her off to sleep as it was quiet then taking her back up.

The following night it was the same, at 12pm in the afternoon we went upstairs for a rest and ended up sleeping until 6pm that eveinign that's how tired we were.

The food wasn't brilliant and they put back our eating time by 1/2 hour!!!!!! The cereal was nice but the hot food left alot to be desired. I normally eat anything but here it was just terrible. Half the time you didn't know what you were even eating. The tables were all cramped together with hardly enough room to move in between to get to the counters. You did get chips about twice a week but still they didn't taste like normal chips.

The entertainment around the pool was good though during the day and the water aerobics were great fun. But although the entertainers tried hard the evening entertainment was worse than a Butlins wannabee camp, very very bad.

Upon arriving back home I found I had lost 1/4 of a stone I can only put that down to lack of sleep and poor food, a couple of days later my ears were so sore, really throbbing and painfully excruciating. I went to the doctors who told me I had one of the worst ear infections he had come across in both ears. I actually had puss coming out of them. He asked where I had been swimming lately and I said " well just on holiday " and he was disgusted, he said the pool must have been extremely dirty, and when we looked back at our holiday photos you can actually see that the pool had turned almost brown one day.

I WILL NEVER EVER go back to this hotel again, I was going to put a report in with the travel agents but I didn't see the point. I just hope no-one else gets as bad an holiday as us, as I just wanted to cry the whole time I was there.

We travelled as a party of 13 to the hotel Belair. The hotel in general is kept very clean, but the toilets in the reception and bar areas were not checked regularily. Several times we had to tell reception that there was no toilet paper or that people had been sick and that they needed to clean them. Your request was always dealt with immediately by the reception staff though.

The food in the evenings was very good, although you are better to go in a bit later so that you do not have to queue to get it. The only let down was breakfast which, most mornings, consisted of pastries, jam, cold meat, feta cheese, hard boiled eggs, hard baked beans and tasteless hot dog sausages cut into bits. If you were very lucky you might get the occasional fried or scrambled egg.

We had lunch on the beach and at the hotel pool bar, all were excellent. The staff at the beach were very helpfull.

The noise of an evening was a bit of a nuisance. We were in the middle of the hotel at the front and could hear music blairing until about 4am everyday. We are quite heavy sleepers, so it wasn't too much of a problem, but if you are a light sleeper you need to ask for low numbered rooms as these are away from the noise. Some people complained to reception and were offered ear plugs.

The external shows were excellent but the shows that the hotel put on were weak. The entertainment staff worked hard and were good fun. Ask Nino if he enjoyed getting dumped in the pool for smearing cake all over one of our parties face on his birthday.

You will need to take plenty of travellers cheques as you cannot book anything to your room and pay by credit card at the end of your stay.

The only reason we would not return to the hotel is we wouldn't want to risk getting a noisier room.
