We arrived at 11.30 pm to find the back door locked and as the coach could not make it up the steep hill were dropped at the bottom of the steep hill and expected to drag our cases up the hill with us. God help us if we have been elderly or infirm.

We got our room keys by 11.45 (quick service!!) and were told the restaurant was open for all inclusive snacks until 12 midnight. We left our cases in reception and made it to the restaurant for 11.50pm. The restaurant was closed and on telling the staff we were hungry were met with Closed Closed Closed, and the door being firmly shut in our faces.

We told reception and they said "Oh sometimes they close early" and didn't seem too interested in our plight. We took our cases to our room and then had to go back down the hill into Benidorm to find something to eat.

On trying the 'food' in the restaurant the following day we would probably have been better off eating in Benidorm for all our meals but we persevered for a couple days more. The food was cold, repetitive, greasy and cold at each and every meal. The staff did their best to close the restaurant early at every mealtime and if you arrived there during the 2nd hour of service (i.e. at 7.30pm when it should be open from 6.30 until 8.30pm) there was hardly anything left and 2/3 of the tables had been screened off. We complained that everything was cold and were pointed to the bank of microwaves that were supposed to be used to reheat the meals!!! Salmonella is an added bonus presumably!!!!

The room was fine with a lovely view of the hotel next door! and was cleaned only when we phoned reception to advise them that it hadn't been already cleaned that day. On 2 days during our 7 night stay it wasn't cleaned at all!!!

The hotel smelt of defecation throughout, other guests were going down like ninepins and my boyfriend had to take a week off work when we returned home with constant sickness and diarrheoea. We were told that other holiday companies (everybody except Airtours/Direct Holidays) had stopped sending people to this hotel 3 weeks prior to our visit as it was being investigated as a public health hazard!!!!

The entertainment was a joke - unless you were prepared to listen to tenth rate musicians who couldn't hold a note, or take part in a quiz with a compere who couldn't speak any English - that had to be seen to be believed!!!!

The whole experience diarrheoea was absolutely horrendous and I could not in all honesty recommend this hotel to a dying duck, never mind a genuine holidaymaker who expects a little cleanliness, decent food and even half rate entertainment.

Book this hotel at your peril!!!

Hotel was lovely and clean and the staff couldn't be more pleasant, they sometimes got a bit annoyed it you went to the bar too often but thats what all inclusive is all about surly??

The big downfall in the uphill road leading to the hotel, its very steep and to be honest you never felt like going out because of this. An elderly couple were climbing up the hill and the lady fell and we think broke her hip, so please be aware when booking this hotel as we were taking taxis all the time.

Well this was our first holiday abroad and we loved it. The hotel for the price was really nice, the staff were pleasant.

The location was ok not far from the beach. The food was nice I just wasn't keen on Spanish bacon but otherwise we had no complaints at all and well what can I say about that hill its really not that bad i've seen worse in devon.

Well we are all in our late 50s and early 60s and we were up and down it twice a day even at two in the morning after a good few drinks.
So please dont be put of by this this hotel is a nice clean good value for money hotel and well be going back in May.

Just returned from staying in the hotel and will give you the facts:

Now called the Majic Rock Gardens

On arrival the property was under major reconstruction. The top reception is a building site.

Nobody tells you that you are on the second floor and that the main reception is 3 floors down (Look for RC)- dont expect help with case etc.

Problems with room doors, no working kettles fridges or tvs. Power socket tripped all the fuses when we tried to plug in an appliance. Oh and no hot water.

After 2 days managed to get water and door fixed.

This hotel has no balcony but as there isn't a view it wont bother you.

The restaurant is not very good and tended to close early as they ran out of food.

Unless you have walking difficulties the hill isn't to bad and to be honest the location is great.

Staff are friendly but tend to be a bit edgy probably due to all the complaints. Having discussed the problems with others IT APPEARS THAT THEY ARE FAIRLY NORMAL AND UNFORTUNATELY YOU GET USED TO THEM- OR GO INSANE!

Other slight problems included that the main swimming pool was closed, the entertainment bar had penetrating water (nice water feature) and the main reception (with a rock theme) had a damp smell.

Hope you have all inclusive as the upgrade is 20 Euros per person per day.

The hotel was probably the worst I have stayed in and as a frequent traveller i don

We stayed in The New Magic Rock gardens in September, although there was a lot of construction going on at the back of the hotel the only time you encounter this is on arrival. The food is a bit repetative as is most spanish hotel food but you could never starve as the snack bar serves meals constantly through the day. The staff were extremely friendly and were always cracking jokes and helping out. Entertainment is not good at all but Benidorm is such a wonderful place you dont want to stay in anyway. We used our
Magic CArd and went to the Villa De Benidorm, if you havnt booked already then I would definetly go there instead. The maids came in daily and our towels and rooms were spotless. For the moeny we paid this was a very good deal.

For being all inclusive and being able to use other chain hotels (what a nightmare) our cards would not work so we were limited to the 1 hotel.

Staff not interested in any problems

No room when we arrived, this was our honeymoon

Food OK I suppose.

Some health and safety issues, leaking roofs, wet floors and broken doors.

Some of the complaints about this hotel must be from folks who have never stayed in 3 star Spanish hotels before re- paper thin walls poor food etc.

This hotel is above average for a 3 star. I found it well run with efficient helpful staff. The rooms are very big with a fridge and are clean and in good repair.

Food is plentiful and varied but as with all other Spanish hotels feature the soggy chips, tasteless cereal and, God! that bacon!!. The free drinks are fine and are served by jolly staff with very little queuing. Anybody still moaning about the hill needs to get an eye test. This fact is printed very clearly in all brochures and websites and no secret is made of this.

Lots of Brits in staying there and always a good atmosphere. Anybody going here will be pleasantly surprised after reading some of the comments.
Oh, and did anyone mention the free trip to the medieval night as well as the use of all the other hotels with the free bus.

The hill leading up to the hotel was quite steep, but is wasn't really THAT bad! The hotel was really clean and the staff were friendly. Only disappointment was our air conditioning was broken at the beginning of our holiday, but it did get fixed (mind you it wasn't great). Plenty of space to sunbathe and there was a couple of pools. The food in the restaurant wasn't the best as it was the same thing every day.

Overall I enjoyed the holiday and I would not complain if my mum and dad sent be back there again.

Returned home early hours from our second visit to the Tropicana Gardens Hotel (family 30, 28, 8 & 6yrs) Had a great time again. Plenty of food available, we didn't bother with snacks so can't comment on them.

The hotel was clean and the maid was in everyday without fail. We don't bother with the kids club as it is a room where kids can come & go as they please & it has a gate from the play area with steps leading to the pool area. Our son is on the autistic spectrum and we can't leave him to wander the hotel/outside alone. The kids disco was on at 8pm each night for half an hour and that was great for us to have a little time in the bar alone and we could still watch over the kids.

There was some maintenance work going on near the pools but this wasn't a problem for anyone as far as I know. There is a new hotel being built behind Tropicana Gardens but again it doesn't cause any problems and we only noticed it from the corridor as we were going/leaving our room.

We had a great time & I'm sure we will be visiting this hotel again.

I found this hotel to be below 3 star, in fact we booked for a fortnight and ended up changing after 10 days. It was either that or a flight home! I could have stood this hotel for a week but not a fortnight. I found the rooms to be fine but the rest of the hotel was not nice, the food was terrible the fact that they were painting the ceiling whilst we were eating I found unbelievable. The entertainment was not entertaining, I've stayed in many 3 star hotels in Spain. I've read the other reviews and lots of people have enjoyed this hotel maybe its that we went in April I don't know, but for me this was my worst holiday experience ever. The location is fine didn't mind the steep hill and access to the other amigos hotels is great especially the one in town, we changed hotels to the Sol Pelicanos and the last 4 days we excellent. I won't be booking again
