We have just returned from a 2 week AI stay at the Topaz. The hotel itself is nice, the rooms are quite shabby and this is honestly my only gripe about our stay. The bathroom is very small and floods easily as there is only a shower curtain that tends to fall outside of the the shower tray too often!!

The staff are lovely, very helpful and the rooms are cleaned every single day....

The pool itself is fab, my son spent more or less the whole 2 weeks swimming from 9am to 6 pm !

The entertainment is dreadful !! but you do have to laugh, it is very poor and is held by the poolside, but its watchable.

The food is fabulous a very wide choice all day, the snack bar is good too..

As I said , we had a very very enjoyable stay, if they spent as much money and effort on the rooms as they do on the rest of the hotel, then it would have been perfect, but you can't have it all I suppose.

I would certainly go back, we did have a room overlooking the pool which was an added bonus !!

Staff generaly miserable, unhelpful, scorning & haughty, not friendly at all. Don't look forward to a smiling face there !

Food quite poor, insipid but we weren't surprised...
Hotel very noisy night & day, small swimming pool.

The cleaning of the room was minimalist, depending on the maid. However, the room was comfortable.

Basic entertainment...

Very angry about staff; they nearly wasted our stay ! Flee Topaz if you can !

Hi just returned from Topaz Fri 5th Aug.

The hotel was great, the evening entertainment was different, some nights good some nights not good but we didnt stay at hotel every night.

People who are booking here should be made aware that there are a lot of Italian and Russian students who stay at the hotel as they go to Malta on a learning english programme.

I personally did not have any problems with them they were in the seperate blocks to me, but people I spoke to said they were noisy at night going in and out of each others rooms or sitting in the stair wells chatting at two o,clock in the morning. They were not around the pool all day as they were at there lessons except on a sunday. I,m glad I did not go all inclusive as lunch turned out to be the same as dinner.

Dinner just had a few extra choices. They changed the evening menu every night, but I think they could have catered for british teenagers a bit more.i.e spag bol, burgers so on. One other problem was with the sunbeds, they have notices up saying you cant reserve sunbeds, but it didnt seem to matter, I dont mind people putting towels on while they go for breakfast, but when they go out all day that is bit to much.

Another problem is the immediate area around the pool it is very slippery even when walking, seen several slip and even fall over when just walking. The cleanliness is superb,we had a cleaner called Claire she was great she would clean our room and turn the air conditioning on when she finished every day, what ever they are paying her is not enough, she was very polite always had a smile on her face and hoped you had a nice day every day.

The hotel entertainment staff were also excellent and could do enough to keep guests happy. overall I enjoyed my stay and would go back to the hotel as I thought it was good value for money.

Nice hotel with very professional and friendly staff in the restaurant and bars. Food very good with wide choice.

Both rooms we had very clean and well maintained.

Entertainment so so but only 10-15 minute walk to the town centre.

But there were a lot of Russian and Italian language students staying. They were very noisy all through the night - making sleep impossible for others in adjoining bedrooms. Whether you enjoy your stay in the Topaz will depend on whether your room is in the same block as the students. We asked Chevron to get the hotel to move us away from the student block after 3 days and after the move we started to enjoy the holiday more.

The students alter the ambiance of the hotel which is not now suitable for couples which want a quiet holiday. We would definitely not return at a time when there were students in the hotel.

This hotel is really nice.

The children were looked after well by the staff. There is a childrens club which was not advertised on booking.

The bar staff were excellent, one, on our arrival at approx 11.30pm, went out of his way to show us where everything was.

We requested a late check out and our reps told us we had to be out of the room for 6pm yet when asking was told it had been booked until next day which was really good as it is very hot here and we was able to have a shower before pick up to go back to the airport.

There is a bus service at the end of the street opposite the hotel entrance which takes you into Bugibba and if you want to walk we advice you to ask reception for a free map as it took us 2 days to get our bearings.

Food pretty good try the pizza's they were excellent.

We would go back and we can be picky with our hotels.

Having read one bad report and many good reports about the Topaz Hotel we took a chance and booked in over the Christmas and New Year period. What a lucky choice of both Hotel and travel company. Chevron were excellent in all departments.

Our room was cleaned, the beds made up and fresh towels were left daily.

The food was varied and well presented.

The location suited us because it was near enough to the centre of town but at the same time it was far enough from the noise and bustle.

The staff were polite and helpful even at the early morning hour of our arrival.

The evening entertainment left a lot to be desired but
there are plenty of nearby friendly bars.

All in all a thank you to Topaz and particularly to Chevron Air Holidays for a wonderful festive season.

Some of the staff were brilliant and really polite, the odd few were really rude.

First impression was it was full of people with walking sticks and zimmer frames, which the hotel catered for as the entertainment was ballroom dancing, bingo and line dancing, which was terrible. The kareoke was a laugh and that was on our last night.

The rooms were clean and had clean towels every day.

If you are a non smoker this hotel would get on your nerves as, it's non smoking, we all had to sit outside hotel most of the time, we could smoke in our rooms on the balcony. Most pubs also are non smoking in Malta now. We did find a few that let you smoke. Most people we met up with felt let down'

The food in the hotel was lovely, a wide choice, the steak is a bit tough like a the beef, and avoid potato salad and ronder chips, they were hard, chips were nice though, they did all sorts, roast turkey and lamb, pasta, curry fish dishes, a vast choice.

We always got bottles of wine as it was easier, because we were all inclusive, also when we asked for a vodka and coke we would go back and get neat vodka as it was weak the drinks. Very dissapointed really but we made up for it by meeting some great people, which was great.

We made our own entertainment outside the hotel because we met a guy from Liverpool and he bought his guitar and mouth organ, so us smokers were singing outside, but at midnight the security staff came out to tell us to stop.

This hotel is marked as a 4 star, but we all thought more like a 3 star.

The one bedroomed apartment was large and clean.

Most of the guests were on AI so the pool area was very busy.

A five/ten minute stroll led to the resort centre, but there were a few good bars and restaurants on the way. The Grapevine and Two Keys were very good.

The staff were always nice and polite.

There seemed to be a lot going on in the hotel, but we didn't indulge in that.

A decent quality hotel in a good position.

One week all inclusive this is the first time have been on AI, food very good and plenty of variety. Staff were friendly - this is our 4th time to Malta and we have stayed at different parts of the island - this is not our favourite part of the island - but after exploring found some nice local bars. Time share people are irritating but seem to take the hint if you are not interested. Not 4* hotel but for what we paid well worth the visit.

We arrived late on a Friday evening to be greeted by very rude and unhelpful reception staff. Our room was appalling, we had to go under the road in a tunnel to get to a block that is obviously not part of the original hotel. We were promptly moved (after a lot of effort) to a much nicer, cleaner room with a balcony over-looking the pool. If you are going here please insist you have a room in the main hotel with a balcony.

We were on an AI deal (meaning you have to wear a hospital-type bracelet all the time - what's wrong with a card?!) which was good value for money. The food was not terrible by any means but served the purpose with a vast choice. We got this deal very cheap, we would however have been very disappointed had we paid the going rate.

Apart from a select few staff, the majority are great especially the bar staff and the animation team (be prepared to dance with them every day!).

If the weather hadn't have been as amazing as it was it would have been seemed much worse.

One final thing, don't waste your money on the over-priced tours offered by your travel company, hire an open-top jeep and do it yourself.
