We arrived at the hotel to a friendly receptionist, which is a good start. My partner and I had our photgraphs taken for the 'All Inclusive cards' we were given for throughtout our stay. Quite efficient and first good impression. (There was not a lot of information about eating and drinking but we thought this would be in the room. Wrong!

The room was quite small but generally clean, very basic and the Decor was very dated. We weren't that bothered as only the two of us, as long as it was clean I am a happy chappie! No information about eating, drinking etc so we went to reception and looked it up.(Not a lot of information I may add)

So far, ok. Not the Ritz but not that bad.

We went to the bar for a drink and was greeted with a queue that had 20+ people, at best it had 3 bar staff at worst it had 1!!! This did not get any better for the week we were there. We decided to go out of the hotel that night and sample the local bars. Infact every night we were there, we went out! If you got to the bar before 8pm the queue was not that bad (15 to 20 people)but after that it was not worth the wait, especially as there is a 2 drink at a time limit. So half you night would actually be spent queing up for drinks in glasses that were not even half pint size!

Food - Appalling! Cold, tasteless and some unidentifable. We tried the breakfast twice, the lunches a couple of times and the evening meal just the once. That was way enough! We did pop in every now and again to see if the food got any better but it didn't. We ate out all other meal times.
A microwave also popped up in the restaurant! Was this their way of condoning cold food? Just heat it up? I think not! (I would like to add that we are not fussy, traditional pie and chip eating sorts. We actually like to sample different foods!)
If you couldn't stomach the breakfast which a lot of people couldn't, they opted for toast! They had two toast machines in a restaurant that seated approx 400+ people and was full generally whatever time you went. Yes! another massive queue!
If you wanted a drink while eating your meal, you had to queue for approx 10-15 mins to be served by the one guy behind the bar BUT if you wanted to pay for a drink they had staff going round bringing it to your table!

The pool area was very cramped and you had to do a 7am dash to the pool with your towels(the latest I add) to get a sunlounger! The Sunloungers were sandwiched together and you would be lucky if you had a 2 inch gap between you and the next person! Nice and intimate I suppose.

Lifts - either wait and I mean wait! Or get super fit like we did walking up to the 7th floor!

The staff in general worked very hard but there was just not enough of them, I actually felt sorry for some of them as they were doing a thankless task day after day. There were a few who shouted at the kids in the pool for having balls, inflatable beds etc but it really did depend on what mood they were in.
The maid had quite a strange tendency to move my toiletries from the shelf or the sink area to the bidet!!! Lets just say that I had an infection control wobbler and was not impressed by the thought of my face cloth being put in the bidet then using it on my face!! This happened a few times. We heard people complaining about various things (mainly the things I have mentioned )in reception but they got vacate looks back from the staff and also shrugs of shoulders! I just moved my toiletries! Less hassle and also less blood pressure problems! They just did not seem bothered about anything!!

In all - if you had children the entertainment was good for them but very repetitive! The hotel has a lot of work to do in regards to Customer Service and it was quite clear that 'cost cutting' was there aim.(If we make them queue long enough they will go somewhere else). In all we paid for all inclusive and must have had 25 drinks each max throughout our 7 day stay!(Oh yes and two punnets of ice cream) The 'Cost cutting' excercise worked with us! We were fortunate to eat and drink out everyday but some people could not do that and had to put up the food and endless queues for drinks!

I would not send my worst enemy to a H Top Hotel. I would also like to add that we are quite easy going and do not demand high class customer service but this was the worst service I have every come across( Not the staff's fault) but the manager's for not employing enough staff. Whoever decides the policies in this chain of Hotels really needs to go back to the drawing board, good service, food and drink etc and people go back - sometimes with their friends and families. Bad experience and you end up writing a report on a website like this and warning anyone not to go!!!!!! Not good business sense to me.

Well I've just come back from this Hotel and I really enjoyed my experience. I suppose it depends on how much you paid for your holiday, but I had a bargain with Ferris coaches. This Hotel was clean and the reception staff were quick and helpful. The location was brilliant and very close to the heart of Calella, with the fantastic Papas bar only 400yards away. The only disappointment was the entertainment, but just go into the town or to Papas bar for family fun.

I have read some of the comments on the food and I must say what is wrong with some of you people. The Hotel's food was very, very good indeed with an excellent selection of hot food and lots of different salads to choose from. The Breakfast was varied and you can have traditional bacon and eggs or continental or both. All I can say about the food is if all you want is British food, well stay in Britain, you must remember that you are in Spain and that will influence the cooking. But saying that I still thought the food was excellent for a three star Hotel.

Finally Calella is very nice but you must visit Barcelona when you are there, because its a beautiful city.

We got a excellent deal off the internet for this hotel, but was quite worried after reading a lot of the reviews on this site but overall had a relly good time.

Food wasn't brillant but was ok and nearly always mustered up a decent meal, on the few occasions that this wasn't possible there was plenty of choice in town (Safari steak house was nice and also the kids loved the mcdonalds).

Couldn't fault the cleanliness as the rooms were cleaned every day, the hallways and stairs always mopped and the toilets were excellent.

The bar staff were not over friendly, but this could have been due to the amount of hours they had to work or the stick they took about only allowing 2 drinks each no matter how many people were in your group or having young children with you.

As soon as we checked in, I went down to reception to ask for a bigger room only to be told that all the rooms were the same size. I travelled with my partner and our 2 lads (14 & 8). The room was incredibly small, we couldn't open the balcony door as one the beds stopped it. I have seen bigger cells than the rooms in The Olympic. In the end we put half of the furniture on the balcony and the other half in the bathroom just to give us some space.

The Pool.

The pool at the back was good, only it was run by the Spanish Gestapo in yellow shirts. It depended on what mood they were in if they allowed lilos or inflatables in the pool. Their service at the bar also left a lot to their moods at the time. Sometimes with a smile but mostly it was surly and unpleasant.

The pool was clean though and the doors opened at 7:00 to claim the beds for the day.

Daytime Entertainment.

The people who ran this were great, and worked very hard during the day and night. The games of Water Polo went down well and it was a great ice-breaker. There were also darts, shooting and killer pool competitions on a regular basis. They also organised the same competitions for the kids.

The Bar.

Be prepared for a long queue to get served, and it's either 2 drinks per person or 2 drinks per card depending on the length of the queue or what The Manager has instructed that night. We were there for 10 days and it changed frequently. The Bar Staff took a lot of 'getting to know' but they work damn hard so you couldn't really chat to them.

The Night Entertainment.

Ranged from terrible to awful with the exception of the Brazilian Show - WHICH MUST NOT BE MISSED. It was truly a horrible experience of a night and it was catch 22. If the act of a night was dire, then the queue at the bar was small. If the act was bearable then the queue was large. Be prepared for locals to get served straight away as well, that caused a few arguements.

Food.

Edible and it was always the same. Pasta or chips, pork or chicken. I had soup with my main meal and I could not tell you what flavour it was, only if it was green, brown or greeny brown. The were queues to get in the restaurant as well, it all depends on the timing of your visit.

I would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy, the whole experience has soured our first time at All Inclusive. In general the staff were pleasant (only just though), and the service was poor and slow.

The hotel is a throwback to the 80's when all you needed was the bare minimum. There are so many different nationalities there of different ages that I believe the hotel tries to cater for all of them and it fails each time. They want to pinpoint the type of guest they want and cater for them if this hotel is to improve.

Every single guest we spoke to during our stay, all had the same complaint and couldn't wait to leave. We spoke to around 30 families during our stay, not one of them had anything good to say about this hotel.

If you would not touch this hotel with a large barge pole, if someone offered me a free holiday at the Top Olympic next year and paid off my mortgage I would still refuse, it's the pits.

I filled in their questioniarre report at the end of my stay, I had to ask for extra paper for my comments.

If you have already booked here and reading this, try the other 'Top' Hotels in the area. The AI card you receive lets you eat and drink in the 3 hotels in the area. That's the only way you'll escape as the service and food is far better. We were told this on our last night !!!!!

If you are thinking of booking this hotel - then please don't, save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

Hotel Olympic is a little tired but clean, rooms are ok as there was only two of us in it.

As for the food all I can say is it is typically spanish if people want english food they should stay in England.

The entertainment was poor aimed mostly at kids but then the people on the team were only kids themselves.

Stayed in Olympic hotel for two weeks, on half board basis. Hotel and the rooms clean and tidy, although far too cramped and unsafe for more than two people in a room.

We stayed on the 5th floor, and did not go out onto the balcony, as the drop was horrendous. Holes in the curtains, and the so called air conditioning didn't work.

Location of the hotel is good, a ten minute work to the shops and beach, but far enough to be away from all (3) of the pubs! Had no problems with the staff, helped out when needed.

The entertainment (if you can call it that) left alot to be desired. Didn't feel the kids club was run very safely (sorry but mums know best!) The food , oh my god the food was disgusting, we tried the breakfast on the first day, and that was it, we ate out every other day, food at night wasn't as bad, but if you don't mind not knowing what it is your eating!

There were 11 of us on a hen weekend and we booked this all inclusive as we got quite a good deal. Wasn't expecting much but overall it was a really good hotel.

The rooms were very clean bit squashed as we had three in some rooms (two proper beds and a camp bed). We only stayed Fri-Mon but the rooms were cleaned every day. The food is not very exciting typical pasta salads, meat and fish every day.

Wouldn't go all inclusive for any more than a couple of days. You are only allowed two drinks at a time so everyone in our party had to queue at the bar to get their own! Waiters not exactly full of enthusiasm or great customer service. The pools and surrounding area are very clean and we had a great view over these.

Entertainment was rubbish, hotel was full of old people but this meant loads of sunbeds free!(very friendly even though we couldn't speak Spanish!) Would recommend this hotel if you just want a quiet holiday.

I thought I had a good cheap deal with this hotel but it turned out to be the worst holiday I have ever had. Would not return as really felt that British people were not catered for at all.

The entertainment was mainly for the Spanish guests. I would never go AI again either, total waste of time as couldn't eat most of what was on offer. It was a shame for my son who stopped going to the pool because no-one could understand him and quite frankly they didn't want to as this is definitely a Spanish holiday hotel not British.
