Myself, wife and 8 year old daughter have just returned from a great holiday at the Golden Donaire. We had a great time in a very clean environment located directly on a fantastic, clean beach, 5 minutes from the fleshpots of La Pineda, 10 mins from Salou (By bus), 20 mins from Cambrils (well worth a visit by bus), 20 mins from Tarragona and 20 minutes from Port Aventura - In other words you cannot fault the location - there was something for everyone. We found the pool a bit too small for the numbers of guests so spent most of the time on the beach (take a sun umbrella, or buy one for 6 Euros from the supermarket - its far cheaper than paying the astronomical prices for hiring sunbeds and shade). We also decided it was too much of a pain in the backside to get up at 7.30 every morning in order to join the stampede of towel-wielding sunbed hoggers for poolside sunbeds with little to no shade (another good reason for invresting in a sun umbrella). When we did stay by the pool we found that the seating area was OK as a base until beds became free, and when we wanted to fry under the sun, the purchase of a cheap lilo meant we could carry our sunbed around with us.

We found the hotel staff working in all areas, to be very friendly and helpful and cannot think of any criticism. The Thomson reps were very friendy and helpful although they do need to check the timings on the PAL promotions (free excursions in exchange for suffering a sales presentation). We booked the Tarragona excursion having been informed that the sales presentation would only be for about 20 minutes. 1 hour later we were still their being lectured by sales people on the miraculous properties of Merino wool and why we should pay them

just back from this hotel. travelled with husband daughter and neice(17 and 16).hotel is right on the beach. clean reception and staff all seemed friendly enough. had 2 rooms on the 6th floor 1 had what we think was a disabled bathroom- large wooden slidding door,no lock, disabled handrails. the hairdryer was usless(bring ur own) the room had a single bed and a double bed and a double wardrobe.the maid cleaned everyday although she never washed the floors.clean towels everyday.the room could really do with a good lick of paint as it was old and dated .the other room was very tiny with 2 single beds and not a lot else apart from wardrobe, bathroom in this room was also very small bath not full size. the balcony in this room was massive as it was an end room.the food in the restraunt was not the best although i found pleanty of salad and chips the rest of the family ate out for 12 out of our 14 days. but the desserts were good. all the public areas were kept clean and tidy. the drinks at this hotel are very over priced 9out 10 families were going to the shop across the road and buying their drinks and bringing them to the pool and bar/terrace areas. also the snacks were expensive compared to outside. entertainment was good although there were a few rubbish acts i.e. the snake charmer. and a dog act. the best show was the ricky show/disco on the friday night.if the food at this hotel was a bit better i would definatly go back as it was clean enough and in an excelent location.

we got back from this hotel last night , and we had a fantastic time , the hotel was very clean , the foyer and rooms etc were spotless and very cool and the outside areas were beautifully presented ,. the food was very good , and got better as the week went on , lots of choice so if u didnt like one thing you could try something else

we didnt like the cooked breakfast but there was lots of cereal fruit toast croissants etc ...the desserts were lovely and lots and lots of them too
the hotel was located right on a lovely sandy beach with clear water and we really enjoyed that

the staff were friendly, and very helpful , specially Jacqeline , she was fantastic !!!

Second time back and still a top place to stay. Food ,as previously top notch and good too see the staff had hardly changed as well. Once again , the entertainment (jacqui makes this place!) was very good, although the snake/sword swallowing man was a bit ott.
Rooms are small though and storage is not great, but with the outsatnding Beach, Portaventura park a short bus ride away and great staff/ food etc. this is soon forgiven.
Please don't visit Portaventura though, AS WE DON'T WANT IT SWAMPED WITH UK VISITORS ! Its wonderful, but expect busy weekends and not many english speaking guides etc. They can speak English, but choose not to apperently.

this was our 2nd stay at this hotel and we loved it the 2nd time as much as the 1st time. the only bad thing was we had to have our rooms changed cause they were very small for a 2 week stay but they changed us the day after we arrived so that was great.

the hotel is very clean apart from the sand in places but with the hotel being on the beach its hard to get every grain. la pineda is excellent, quiet and a lovely beach apart from the hair braiders that are on ur back asking to do all your hair all the time.

the food was great always something to eat, we have a fussy 3/4 year old and she always found something to eat, ahe had her birtday while we were away and we booked a cake and it was lovely. all the waiters came up and sung happy birthday and we were given a bottle of champagne, she loved it definatly a birthday to remember.

the entertainment was excellent, essesaially jacqualine, she was soo funny and always got people envolved, my daughter loved her to bits, marcus and adaia were good fun too. activities during the day for adults and for children, the same on a night, theres always something to do. pools are small but big enough for the hotel as its so close to the beach.

definatly go to portaventura its a great day out for all your family but get your tickets on line before you go couse it will save you loads of money....

we have only been home a week and already booked for october, so if you want a great family holiday this is the place to go....

we have just got back from the golden donaire it was our first holiday abroad for all in our party six adults ages 18,26,32,32,34,55 and our daughter age 8 and i couldn't of picked a better hotel, we had three rooms and we all had sea views our room was a family room we had a large balcony and i couldn't fault the room apart from the balcony door it was murder trying to lock it, the cleaners were round everyday and the lady we had was lovely i shouldn't have bothered taking towels as i bearly used then as we were giving fresh towels everyday. i was worried about what food we would eat as a lot off us are really fussy eaters but i needn't of worried as there was plenty of options for us to eat and the desserts were delicious.the only one thing i can fault was things to do during the day on the days it rained we couldn't get out and the didn,t seem much to do, the night entertainment was a bit better 8.30 bingo we had a laugh doing the winners dance then jaqualine and carlos got dressed up as clowns everynite and done party dances got a bit boring after the third nite but my daughter enjoyed it so i was happy then they had a different act on at ten some wern,t to bad i loved the balancing act. i had read the reviews on here before i went and was expecting the staff to be rude but i found then all lovely. one thing i would take if i go again was a kettle i tried to buy one in la pineda and salou and no where sold then so it was costing me 1 euro 30 whenever i wanted a coffee . we went to barcelona on a day trip it cost us 59euros adult and 39 euros a child and ive got to say it was one off the best days off my life, we went to barcelona football ground first even tho football isnt my cup off tea i wouldnt off missed it for the world, just to see my husbands face made all the steps worth it( and there was a lot of steps) then we went to the zoo or as my daughter put it the girls bit there was animals i had only seen on tv before to be so close to them was wonderful my best bit was the gorilla it took my breath away we went to the dophin show it was brilliant the only bad thing about that day was we didnt feel like we had enough time at the zoo. we also went to aquapolis which is 10mins walk from the hotel and had a really good day even tho the pools were cold we would go back again only next time we would try finding somewhere to go for a nite out so it doesnt get boring some nites if anyone wants tobbacco go to salou we were dropped off by the bus outside of it and you could also got your money changed there which was the best exchange we had found.

We chose this hotel for its locataion and from the reviews that we had read about it and were not disappointed with the hotel at all. It was very clean and the desk staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the bureau de change lady. The restaurant staff and bar staff could have been friendlier and no-one stood out as is often the case when you go away. Often you come home and talk about the funny barman/waiter who made your holdiay etc but there was none of that.

The pool is quite small and you cannot take any inflatables in as it makes it even more cramped and sunbeds are not plentiful but if you're prepared to get up and queue between 7:30 and 8am you will get one. There are plenty of chairs and tables poolside if you don't fancy the early morning rush.

Prices in the bar and for food are very expensive ie 1 euro 55 for a small plastic cup of coke from a pump mostly ice! But there are plenty of small supermarkets where you can buy drinks and snacks for a much reduced price, and let's be honest you pay mainly for the service when you pay hotel prices which I didn't think I was getting so I had no quarms walking across the road to buy drinks.

The location of the hotel is excellent, right on the beach, which is a man made beach.

The entertainment in the hotel was good if you like that sort of thing. The Animation team work very hard and do a great job. There are games all day for children and adults and bingo, a mini disco and a show, karaoke or disco every night. The only problem is if your room is over the pool you won't get any sleep until it all finishes which is 12ish!! So if you've got any early morning excursions planned take ear plugs.

The food was good, lots of choice and the menu did vary slightly from week to weeek although on the whole it was pretty much the same. There was plenty of food and it was always hot and fresh and when you consider the numbers being catered for you cannot complain at all. Drinks are plentiful at breakfast but you have to pay for your drinks in the evening including water. Top tip, if you buy a bottle of wine they will label it and keep it for you for the next evening, which we only discovered half way through our holiday. It works out cheaper than buying the wine by the glass. The restaurant gets quite busy at peak times and they get a bit fed up when people arrive for breakfast at 10am when the restaurant shuts at 10.15am, so be warned if you are late!!!

The kids club was good, the girls were really friendly and it was nice for the kids to have a cool off in an air conditioned room for a couple of hours. There is evening club most nights from 7-9pm which costs 3E and mini club organised by Animation some evenings for kids to go to whilst the entertainment is on from about 10-11.30pm.

All in all I would recommend this hotel as it is clean, well located and the rooms are a good size. But we've been now and there's a big world out there so probably won't be going back.

We have just arrived back from our holiday from the Golden Donaire Hotel and have to say we have had one of the best holidays ever.

The hotel itself had a lovely setting. Directly onto the South side of La Pineda beach. The location of the hotel was excellent. Whilst not in the heart of bustling Salou it was only a short bus ride if you were looking for that type of holiday.

The Entertainment and Kids Club staff deserve a special mention. These people work extremely hard and the kids really seemed to enjoy themselves in a friendly safe environment.

The Entertainment was excellent with music from tribute acts such as Village People, Four Tops and Take That. SJ Ricky also keep the holidaymakers entertained with his disco party on the Friday nights. Again the childrens entertainers were excellent.

Special thanks to Jacqueline and Carlos who put on many excellent programs of activities throughout the day.

The food was mixed with breakfast a bit bland and same everyday. However, the evening meals were excellent and special thanks to the chef with the carvery each nite.

We would definitely visit this hotel again. The welcome was excellent and would highly recommend a visit for any family!

I went a Golden Donaire beach with Mummy, Emily (my sister) Grandma and Pops (my grandad). i absoulutely LOVED it there! I likes the way that we just had to walk across the road to go to the beach and the shop selling icy pops and beach toys!
I am going again in July 2010 just with Emily and Mummy this time.
I can't wait to see all my hotel buddies again!

Just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Hotel Golden Donaire and we've have a great time. The hotel is located right on the beach with bus stops a few minutes walk away to neighbouring towns.

On arrival check in was quick and reception staff were friendly. The lifts were a bit hectic but that is to be expected with a coach load of new arrivals. Our room was basic but clean and the only downside was the lack of wardrobe space but this seems to be a common problem in Spainish hotels. Our beds were made and we had new towels everyday as long as the sign was put on the door and dirty towels on the bathroom floor.

There was plenty of choice for Breakfast and Evening meal and no one could complain they went hungry as there was always something to eat.

We found all the hotel staff friendly with nothing too much trouble, our 7 year old son accidently broke the shower mixer tap and it was fixed straight away. We also requested extra pillows and they were also sent to the room within an hour of requesting.

The entertainment team worked extremely hard and long hours. Activities were for both adults and children at various times during the day, with the usual bingo, mini-disco and show on a night.

I would recommend this hotel to families. It is not a quiet hotel so if you want peace and quiet I would stay somewhere else. We can't wait to go back as our son loved it, and a happy kid equals happy hols!!
