This is a very good hotel, for a 2 star rating, the hotel staff are just great, as are the two reps Sahra and Kate.
The pool is a shade on the small side, and is quite difficult to enjoy a good swim, but hey there was a big sea not far away.
The food was good on most days, but on ocassions just lacked that little bit of quality, I must say that it is only my opinion!
On acommodation, the walls between each bedroom could do with extra sound insulation, as you could hear every word, and transfer of noise...
But I must say we enjoyed our holiday in Santa Monica and the area, and will return in the near future....

We have been to Santa Monica three times and are returning 2006.
Hotel very good food excellent, entertainment poor but does not matter to us as there is plenty other places to go.
Staff are very helpful nothing to much trouble. Going to book as soon as possible for our next holiday

The hotel was a standard hotel which was generally clean and the staff friendly.
The food was plentiful and I eat so much my trousers got too tight.
HOWEVER there is EXTENSIVE BUILDING work adjacent to the pool which could be very noisy and when we sat out by it we ended up covered with small pieces of wood shavings.
The noise and looking at a half finished building with giant cranes was not my idea of a holiday rest. The Thomson rep was also not very helpful about this problem.
If you don't mind the building work, which is not the hotels fault, it is a reasonable place to stay.

Hotel nice.
Food very good choice and cooked well.
Entertainment poor but the hotel entertainment team are all new they try hard so in time they should get better kids loved their day time entertainment that they did not bother with the kids club.
Building works not a good sight I did not hear any noice or see any dirt or dust and I stayed around the pool each day so that was not a problem.
If I was going to the Costa Brava again I would stay at this hotel again.

Before travelling we read reports on this site and others like it about this hotel and most were favourable.
I like to think we are realistic in our expectations and dont expect 5 star luxury from 3 star hotels. If you take the same view then you will not be disappointed by the Santa Monica,although the food is very good for a 3 star.
The hotel and rooms are kept spotless,as is the pool area although the latter gets very busy and I recommend an early start to guarantee a sunbed.
The only letdown is the evening entertainment,but this is aimed mainly at the kids who love it. Although Calella is not overloaded with english bars,if this is what you want I can recommend the Gran cafe bar,the Californian with brummie gary and Cleopatras-2 pints and 2 brandy/lemonades 4.20 euros!
The hotel is close to the wonderful beach and to Calella town centre which with its shops,bars and lovely cool squares is a delight.
The building works are unavoidable but not too obtrusive and dont spoil your stay.

Just arrived back this morninhg from a two week stay at the hotel santa monica.Amazing!! There was me and my friend travelling and we just didnt want to come home. The hotel was spot on in all areas especially cleanliness and the helpfullness of the staff.
Neil on reception was an absolute gem!
The food in the hotel was varied and nice and the restaurant was a good size and we never had to queue. The pool area can become a bit cramped and a sunbed can be difficult to get so early starts are a must.
The entertainment in the hotel was average but the entertainment staff were just brill. So friendly and always up for a laugh! The building work across the road from the hotel didnt bother us as they didt seem to work for long!

We have just returned from a great holiday at Calella,we stayed at the Hotel Santa Monica. We hadn't been there before and was abit worried about the letter we had recieved about the building work opposite the hotel,we shouldnt of worried. It did not upset our stay at all.
The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent.The entertainment crew was very nice and very good with the children, but we found that there wasnt enough happening through the evening to keep us entertained.
Big thumbs up to Alan and denika the kids rep,they was on the go all the time and my son thought they were great. Overall a good hotel.

On arrival we found the hotel to be english speaking.
As this was a late deal we weren't sure what to expect. We found the hotel to be clean, the maids came in every day, by the time we came back from breakfast the room was done. The food was excellent with plently of choices. The variety of fruits were lovely.
There was a short walk from the hotel which was acceptable. I don't know what the entertainment was like as we never stayed in to see it.

However you put it this hotel is the best,kids loved the entertainment. Loved all entertainment team, kids loved the food.
Kids loved the location because it is near the beach so if you have kids this is the hotel for you!
