When we first arrived at the Hotel San Diego on the 13th July 2005 we were up on the 4th floor. We found the beds dirty and dust everywhere. The cleaners came in and did the rooms for the first couple of days we were there but as the weeks progressed they didn't clean the rooms as often so they just got dirtier.

The food in the restaurant was always the same food night after night with no different choices. Most of it was undercooked as well so we only lived on chips and rice. It cost a fortune eating out which we shoudn't have had to do because we went half board.

We found the hotel staff very ignorant and never wanted to help with problems.

The entertainment on a night were always the same with the two entertainers doing the same things all the time.

I stayed at this hotel with my friend and her mum for a week.

When we got there, I was pleased with the reception area, was spacious and had a lounge with a few sofas with two computers with internet access nearby.

The reception staff were friendly enough, and pretty efficient. As people have mentioned before, the lifts were a nightmare! There was only 2 of them, and they didnt feel very safe! Sometimes we would just give up waiting for one, and took the stairs bearing in mind we were on the 4th floor!

I thought our room was fine, quite small, but wasn't too bad, as we knew it was not as if we were going to be staying in our room for the whole day! The air conditioning in our room was a LIFESAVER! We had no problems with it at all during our stay, and I appreciated it so much, as usually when I go on holiday and there's no air con in the room, at night it is horrible! Believe it or not, some nights I was actually shivering!

I was quite impressed with the food at the hotel, as there was a wide selection, although most of it was the same again and again each night. The queue for the meat where you could watch the chef grill it was quite long some nights.

I liked the idea of it being buffet style as you could choose whatver you felt liked having. I found the waiters were quite friendly. One of them being over friendly sometimes! The bar staff were extremely friendly; me and my friend took a liking to the young barman called David! The happy hour (from 8.30-10pm) was fantastic. 2 drinks for the price of 1, excluding cocktails though.

The entertainer called Oscar was a great asset, he would work throughout the day and night, and entertain the kids, for example, organize pool tournaments! We beat him! I wasn't too impressed with the entertainment at night though, it was all too repetitive. They played the same music each night, however this was good for the young children as it helped them to learn dance moves! But for teenagers and adults there is plenty of entertainment that you can reach within walking distance.

Me and my friend particularly enjoyed a bar called Idols, drinks were cheap and the bar staff were fun and friendly. The pub opposite the hotel, Victoria's was also good. There was a Robbie Williams impersonator and I have to admit he was actually very good!

A weeks stay was definitely not long enough. Salou is great if you want an entertaining holiday, so in a week we didnt really get to try out different bars or clubs.

Overall I was very pleased with the hotel, it was very basic yet I found it to be clean and the staff were friendly enough. It is definitely worth the money if you're not too fussy a person!!

I most likely will come back to Salou, and stay in this hotel again.

We went for 1 week half board to this hotel and paid a lot less than we would normally pay for a holiday...however the price was relected in the standard of hotel.

The rooms were very basic and we were positioned overlooking another hotel whose nightly entertainment blasted from the poolside until 12 midnight.
With a young child we found it almost impossible to get him to sleep.

It was 34 degrees when we were there on the 1st June and was suffocating in the rooms, dining room and bar area, however the hotel stated that they dont turn the centralised air conditioning on until 22nd June...very uncomfortable.

Food was same old...every day and tasted bland, so we ended up eating out. The poolside tables and sunbeds were black with dirt and finally the lifts (nightmare) Be prepared to wait a lifetime, Heavily pregnant and wheeling a pram I waited 20 mins one day while the lifts were being used by a vast number of kids from a school trip.

The San Deigo hotel was very nice but the beds in the rooms were never changed in the two weeks that we were there.

The food was absolulty horrible and my kids never had any thing decent to eat. One night all they had was a bread roll with rice because they had run out of chips and the bread roll had no butter on because they had run out of that.

The entertainment is rubbish they have things on the board what they do and they don

We have just come back from this hotel and I have no hesitation in recommending it. The rooms are similar size to what you might find at a travelodge, small but clean and comfortable, it has 5 floors serviced by 2 lifts (which I have to say was a bit of a pain cause you had a long wait for them, so we often gave up and took the stairs, which was quite exhausting as we were on the 4th floor.

We didn't plan on eating in every night but the food was excellent so we just had lunch's out. The dinners are buffet style, you fetch what you want, choose a table and then the waiter comes and takes your order for a drink.

They were quite reasonable as well, it cost us 5.50Euro for 3 cokes and a local beer. They bar upstairs also has a happy hour or 2 each evening from 8 till 10 I think it was, which was excellent value and covered wine, local beers, lemonade etc.

I cant comment to much on the entertainment as we only stayed in one night, but It was ok that night, they had mini disco till 10 for the kids then a miming, gymnastic, juggling type act on.

The pools were clean and there are plenty of free sunbeds. For any people that are doing it without a tour operator like us, there is no need to be apprehensive, on arrival at the airport their is a kiosk the one and only in the room were you wait for your luggage offering a bus (coach really) service that takes you direct to your hotel and picks you up from the same place on your return for 10 Euro each (return) kids under 5 are free.

Or if you prefer a taxi they are waiting just outside the door and charge 25 euro each way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone the standard is very good.

The food was very good, gala night was excellent, breakfast had all the hot foods tea coffee toast and rolls you could eat. Evening meal was great steaks, pork etc. The Matre De Francisco was excellent.

Bar staff excellent, drinks very reasonable, day time burgers and Mustard is a must with a pint.

Location is not bad surrounded by hotels, can be noisy, on bin night, however; is only 5 minutes from nearest cove/beach.

Entertainment is not bad provided by reps and local entertainers.

We stayed for 2 weeks on Half board basis the hotel its self is good. It is in a brilliant location with everything you want within 5 mins walk.

The hotel was always kept nice and clean. The pool was a good size and the area around pool had loads of sun loungers never any trouble finding two together, most afternoons there was some sort of activaty going on like a quiz or water games.

Entertainment in hotel was not good but with great entertainment in pubs on your doorstep that does not matter much.

The food was fine in the evening there was always a large selection of food even my fussy girl friend always found something she liked. Breakfast was not amazing mainly because it was spainsh bacon and sausage
etc but it wasnt that bad.

The staff in the hotel was hit and miss sometime very nice other times not so all in all this hotel is of a good standard and I have stayed in much worse. I will return in a few years.

Oh and dont miss Portaventura it's Fantastic on par with Disneyworld Paris. Great rides, go at night to ride them in the dark!.Daily Midnight show is not to be missed its brilliant!

We are just back from this hotel yesterday and had a really good time in salou. The hotel, swimming pool and dining areas were nice and clean enough and the rooms were cleaned daily but they were a bit of a squeeze. considering there was three of us all in the same room and the beds were close together there was not much room to move about but we got by as we weren't in the rooms much anyway.
The swimming pool was brilliant and there was never a need to rush down for beds as they were free and there was plenty of them.
The LIFTS in the hotel were a NIGHTMARE. There were only 2 lifts and most of the time one or both were out of order. This was a real pain especially for people with young children with buggys. One time the lift dropped 2 floors with some people in it. They were slightly in shock and hurt their backs. This was the only really major thing wrong with the hotel.
The breakfast we got was ok although the bacon never really had any meat on it the sausages were minging and the rest of the stuff was continental. When we went for breakfast in the hotel we stuck to the fried eggs and toast they were edible.
The dinner at night was a hit or a miss. firstly you got a slot when u were to go for your dinner but when u went down you had to wait in a big long cue in a dark corridor and only when they were ready in the dining area were the lights switched on. we were told to go for our dinner between 7 and 7.15 but this did not happen it was closer to half past by the time we got in because we had to wait on them opening the doors. Most of the time in the restaurant it was pork that was on. None of my family like pork so this was not good for us. Some nights the dinner was LOVELY. The "gala nights" as they called it were good. The first time they had steak and roast beef and roast potatoes and every woman got a rose going out the door. The second week they held this wasn't as good. The meals weren't as good and even the rose going out the door wasn't as nice as the week before.
The entertainment in the hotel was absolutly rubbish and we spent all our time outside the hotel in other pubs and clubs.
we had a reasonably good time at this hotel

Myself and my boyfriend went to Salou for the first time in Jul. I was happy enough with the hotel from the offset, till the week began ! I had to get up early every morning to get a bed, there were none left after 9:30am !! The room was clean but small, we had two single beds which was fine except we had to talk around a corner......beds were on opposite sides of the room !! Our room over looked a road and the bins so was quite noisey. One thing though the air conditioning in the room was fantastic. leave it on for the day and come back it was like stepping into a fridge. the reception staff were lovely but the bar staff were quite rude, snack food at the bar was expensive and I didnt think much of the meals. we paid Half Board and only ate once in the hotel, found good value food elsewhere. The pool was always really full of children, dangerously full at times, there was no life guard, they constantly played the same music at the pool all day long until the Spannish entertainment came on at night, even though it was prodominantly an English speaking group of guests. Dont get me wrong Im not hard to please when it comes to a week in the sun, I was just not impressed with this hotel at all, there are plenty more available for the same price that offer such a higher standard. wont make the same mistake again.
