Overall we very much enjoyed our 11 night half board stay at the Vil.la Romana which proved to be a cosmopolitan experience with people from France, Spain, Holland, Belgium also staying at the hotel.

In brief summary and in order of ratings firstly the Hotel was generally very clean but was badly let down in the reception by dirty seating upholstery. A shame because the attractive and bright reception area was a main leisure area, hence a rating of 4.

The hotel food was in our opinion very good with a wide and varied selection of hot and cold dishes both at breakfast and dinner. If there was a slight criticism then it would be that the intended hot breakfast (bacon, sausages etc) was often luke warm. Long dining times at both breakfast and dinner helped prevent congestion at mealtimes.

The hotel location in our view was perfect, i.e. short walking distance to town, beach and other amenities e.g. Port Adventura. Also trips to Barcelona, Tarragona and Sitges are fairly easy although we only managed Barcelona in the time we had.

Hotel staff overall were pleasant and helpful (particularly at reception) but a few of the waitresses were not so accommodating and seemed not to be enjoying their job as much as they might.

Entertainment was very much, seen it ,done it, got the tee shirt!!! etc. I would suggest fairly uninspiring for most, and in our opinion you are much better off going into town to the bars for good live music etc.

Yes we would visit the hotel again. The location which was better than we had expected, and a great base for exploring many other places / areas both inland or on the coastal routes.

We were impressed the minute we walked into the reception area it was very large and bright. We were equally impressed with the rooms and showers they were great.

The cleanliness in the hotel from the room service to the entire complex was first class.

The hotel bar was very reasonably priced, air conditioned and very spacious and the staff were fantastic making this a favourite area of ours.

The location was good for theme / water parks and also a 15 minute walk to main beach.

The staff at the vill la Romana were all outstanding from the maids in your rooms, reception, entertainment, kitchen and restaurant and Management who were always available.

Entertainment had a few dodgy nights but that was due to acts cancelling and the two guys stepping in a last minute, they were very good although there was a habit of the evenings repeating themselves.

I will definitely return to this hotel again and recommend it to all my friends.

We have just returned from a two week holiday in what was the best hotel we have stayed in.

We have two teenage sons 16 and 12. The cleanliness of the hotel was excellent, clean towels every day and linen every other.

As we entered the room our first thoughts were a bit small, as we were used to self catering appartments, but we soon reallised we only used the rooms for when we went to bed. During the evenings between 6-7pm the showers were not very warm we assume due to hot water demand, at other times they were red hot. Although the rooms were very nice the only thing missing was a kettle from the room as us Brits like a cup of tea when we rise.

It is the first time we have stayed in a hotel on half board basis and I must say how impressed my family and I were about the choices available throughout our stay.

Breakfasts were good with a range of continental or full english equivellent, cereals and toast although the choices of meat were beef, chicken, pork, lamb and fish each night they were always cooked differently and throughout the 2 weeks we never had a repeated dish the puddings to die for.depending on what time you went for your meals it could be a bit noisey but not over the top, we chose to eat outside which seemed more quieter. hotel staff very friendly and eager to please, instead of taking own beach towels you could hire them from hotel.

Entertainment, we did not use this very often as it was a disco for young children followed by acts and mr and mrs games as the lads were not impressed at their ages we went into salou which was very busy .

English were as bad as others at the races for the sun beds we had no problems still plenty around at 11am. We would visit this hotel again.

We booked this Hotel a week before we due to go with First Choice; We had a choice of either the Belvedere Hotel or this one - after looking up both Hotels on Holiday Truths this one had a better report.

Cleanliness - Cleaned Daily - Well beds made daily - not swept everyday.

Food - Excellent Choice of food for adults; didnt think that they catered much for Children(my son was 6). For Breakfast he only used to have pancakes - with reluctance the chef would give me three pancakes - although every morning he would sigh when I asked for three - By the end of the first week I had enough of this and I did make a complaint to Alex (First Choice Rep) about this, he said he would speak to the Restaurant Manager - but things didnt change. You could go to breakfat between 08.00 - 11.00 and Evening Meal 18.30 - 21.30h. On the first day we missed breakfast as we didnt arrive until early hours so we slept late - I asked if we could have dinner instead - but they woudlnt let - I wasnt amused with because I paid full adult price for my child - who ate next to nothing.

Location - Excellent Location just minutes away from the shops and about 10 minute walk to Port Aventura & Caribe Water Park. Although the first night I did get lost walkng home at 10pm the first night I was there.

Staff - Most of them friendly enough.

Entertainment - Bit Disappointed. When I booked this holiday I looked for a Hotel that had Childrens Club (as it was only two of us)When we went to the Welcome Meeting - I asked about the Childrens club - How we register etc - Was told that the children do not register and that they are free to wonder in and out of the Kids Club freely. Kids Club was only open for approx 2 hrs in the morning then reopened at 16.30h. If you had a child under 5 you wouldnt be able to leave them there on their own; but its states in the brochure that there are different Age Groups - Well there wasnt when I was there for two weeks in Peak Season. They did Auqa Aerobice some days which was a bit of fun - the instructor would always show off.

Night Entertainment - Not too bad. We did stay to watch some evenings - Again Kids Disco wasnt realy a disco - it was a game called "In & Out" where they would just have the kids to follow the instructor if you did it wrong you would lose. Winner would get a Tshirt - Not much fun for kids really. I asked if my son could have a kids club tshirt - He could only have one if he won a game...but yet in the brochure you can see the children wearing these tshirts to show that they are in the Kids CLub.

I would visit this hotel due to the Location & Cleanliness. Wouldnt recommend this Hotel though if your'e looking specifically for a Kids Club.

Just come back from a 2weeks stay at this hotel and must say very impressed the hotel was clean and all staff pleasant.

Food was good even for me who is quite picky there was a great choice of meats cold and hot food was varied to suit everyone's taste because there were other nationalities staying here aswell.

At breakfast you could get omelette's to order pancakes and fried eggs also they done cold meats and smoothies.

The pool area was clean at all times there was a lifeguard at the pool everyday. They done aqua aerobics, waterpolo for adults and kids they also have an indoor pool, sauna and gym.

The location of the hotel was excellent it was in a prime location for theme park and costa caribe about 10 min walk.

Aquapolis is better has more slides and dolphin and sealion show. Taxi cost about 10 euro but if you buy the tickets from rep you can get a free bus their it is also a 10 min walk to the beach and shops .

Entertainment in the hotel is poor only saw 2 decent shows we went out most nights mainly to CHARLIE CHAPLINS and IDOLS both british pubs and very good my wife was glad about these because idols was showing the x-factor also have to mention an other british pub vines they do a fantastic sunday dinner.

Would I stay here again? YES

We chose this hotel as a result of previous reviews on this and other holiday review sites and what a good choice we made!

A modern well appointed hotel situated about 10-15 minutes from both the beach and Portaventura Theme Park - don't be fooled though - Portaventura is only good for about 3 visits - there's not enough there to keep everyone entertained for any longer.

Hotel facilities were excellent, although the room was a little tight for a grown family of four - but then we only used the room for sleeping.
There's a mini fridge - great for your water, beer or juices - TV with 3 english language channels - air conditioning.

The food was pretty good with the usual choices for breakfast (cereals, fruits, salads, meats and cheeses) but also had freshly fried eggs or omlettes to order.

Dinner consisted of soups and salads, 5 or 6 main choices including, beef, pork, chicken, vegetables, potatoes (and chips)and rice and some really excellent puds.

Each Friday was a gala occasion where they really excelled with some exotic dishes on offer.

The pool area was amply stocked with sunbeds and although the hotel policy was NOT to allow them to be reserved the usual (continental) culprits were up at the crack of dawn to get their towels down - (if you can't beat them then either join them or throw their towels in the pool!!)

The one area the hotel could improve was in their nightly entertainment - a mini disco starting around 9pm followed by a mixture of semi-professional and incredibly amateur turns from about 10 till midnight.

The mini-disco was exactly the same each night and led by a totally irritating entertainments manager (who deserved to be dunked in the pool every night).

Some of the grown-up stuff was a bit better but it's not the hotels best bit.

The entertainment here and in the neighbouring hotels shuts down prompt at mid-night so this could be looked on as a major plus point if you want a bit of peace and quiet through the night - if you want it more rowdy then go to Ibiza!

All in all a great base for our holiday on the Costa Dorada

This was our first visit to this hotel. The hotel was very clean.

The food and the staff were excellent.

The location of the hotel was also excellent with the beach only a 10 minute walk away.

The one area that really let the hotel down was the evening entertainment. It was reasonable on 2 nights, but the other nights was pathetic.

This was our first time to this hotel and the resort of Salou.

First impressions of the hotel and resort are that it was very clean and well maintained.

Staff all friendly and helpful.

Rooms cleaned every day and hotel itself kept spotless by the cleaning staff.

The only let down is the holiday makers (children) not respecting the furniture and there being no "No smoking areas" in the hotel, that aside I can find no complaints about the hotel or its staff.

The food was very good and plentiful, with two young children it was no problem keeping them fed and happy (ask for a Mickey Mouse pancake at breakfast!) The limitations for any hotel caterers over two weeks must be difficult but I am a fussy eater and enjoyed every meal I had.

The entertainment in the hotel was good and is always what you make it, most nights there was a visiting act of some kind. There is a kids club every day and lots of activities to take part in during the day at the hotel and mini disco every night for the kids.

The hotel is ideally situated about 10-15 min walk to the beach which is clean and reasonably priced for sun beds, at $11 for two beds and a parasol for the day.

The portaventura site is a must if you stay in Salou, again this is about 10-15 min walk. If you do go then but a 3-2-1 pass for the park. At $63 per adult and $50 per child or OAP (under 4's go free) you get 2 days at the theme park and 1 day at the water park, you can go in and out of both during the day and the theme park is open till midnight so you can spend a morning in the waterpark go back to the hotel for tea and then go back to the park and see the fireworks etc. If you go to the park you must go on the Condor vertical drop and the dragon roller coaster AWESOME.

Over all my family and I enjoyed the hotel, the resort. beach and theme park. The only negative thing I can think of which is really a bit of a joke is that if you spend your holiday at the hotel by the pool you must be prepared to enter the now international sport of longer reserving. This once famed German event is now well represented by the Dutch, French, Irish and English from as early as 6am.

Finally if this is your first time to Spain, Salou or this hotel you won't be let down.

This hotel is nice looking, it is split into two blocks with the reception in the middle.

We arrived at 10.15am, luckily our room was ready but other people had to wait until after 1pm for theirs. Our room was small for the four of us, the children had to share a sofa bed which was not ideal. There is a distinct lack of wardrobe space with only ten hangers and no drawers. There is a mini fridge(ideal for keeping drinks cool), t.v., safe in the room. The bathroom was clean, although our bath had a chip in the enamel. You get the free soap shower gel etc. Although these were never replenished throughout our stay. Also only one basin,to some up the room was alright for two people but not really for a family.

The pool area is large and spacious, and as long as you can get down before 8.30am you should get a sun lounger. The pool is lovely, only problem there was no depth markings what so ever. So this could be trouble some for you and your children. The pool depth is no more than 6ft at its deepest. There is a nice bar by the pool which opens roughly around 11.00am. The snacks we had were fine.

The restaurant area is nice, with seating inside and outside. You get seated to your table by waiter/waitress and they take your drinks order. The food is good with a selection of salads etc. At breakfast the chefs cook pancakes, fried eggs and omelette's to order, these can be busy. In the evening they are cooking meats. We stayed for two weeks and the food was exactly the same in week two as week one. But we enjoyed most of it.

The entertainment at night was OK, with some good acts and some not.

The Hotel children's club is run by one person and is not that reliable to the times it advertises. You never really new from day to day whether she would be there.

There are a lot of nationalities staying at this hotel especially French and Belgium's. It is a busy hotel and can be quite loud. It is situated perfectly for the town and Port Aventurer. It is a good hotel not a great one.
