Turgetreis is a small town roughly a 15 minute sea front walk along a fairly new promenade. It has a lovely marina and harbour, with a busy saturday market. It has a fair selection of shops, bars and restaurants, but being all inclusive we didn't really sample any. For us, preferring a quieter type of resort it was perfect. The beaches are mixed sand/shingle. It was very breezy during our stay which was very welcome, and consequently the sea was quite choppy.

I was pleasantly surprised with the resort of Turgutreis, and would recommended it to families and couples. The beaches were shingle/stones but were cleaned every night. We were never hassled and the people were friendly and nice. Some good shops and a 1st class market on a Saturday.

turgutreis is a lovely resort, although the beach is shingly and stoney to get in the sea, nice selection of shops, but we did find this area more expensive than other parts of turkey we have been to, ie english breakfasts were £5, steak meals £10-£15

The resort itself was litter free, however, work was being undertaken with regards to the promenade so a few of the work mens tools could be seen.

The town itself was buzzing with different shops, bars and restaurants peppered around.

The beach was shingle and sand but we used the jetties as they had sun loungers on them.

As to beach it is really small area, but for me it wasn't a problem because I preferred to stay next to the swimming pool. We cannot complain about cleanliness and entertainment.

I first visited Turgutries sixteen years ago when it was a quiet fishing village with no marina. It is now the largest town on the Bodrum peninsular and because of its expansion has lost a lot of its character. I noticed several differences since I had last visited in 2005. Food and drink prices had increased by 80% making an All Inclusive holiday very worth while. The shop keepers were very friendly but any bargains were hard to come by, in fact some items were cheaper in Britain. The town still has its small streets which makes shopping great fun. I heard from the rep ( Who lives there) that Turgutries council are bowing to pressure from the bar owners to reduce the number of All Inclusive hotels by 20% next year and 40% the year after as they were not making enough money. This is certainly a case of "killing the goose that laid the golden egg" and I believe will result in many nationalities leaving this area of Turkey.

Resort overall cleanliness was very good. Beach man made in part golden sandy natuaral but acceptable considering.
The entertainment as described earlier left a lot to be desired.

The resort is currently being developed. They are building a promenade along the front that will look great when its finished.

As for entertainment, there are many bars and restaurants that are willing to stay open as long as you are willing to drink and eat - make sure you check and question your bill. There are no night clubs in the resort however there is one in bodrum which is not to far away.

The beach is very clean, the sea is very clear (always fish around your feet) but the sand is quite sharp. You will need to wear something on your feet if you're walking along the sand.

We only have Hisaronu to compare Turgetries with but prefer Hisaronu. We did find that we were hassled far more here than we expected which made browsing the plethara of shops, bars and restaurants an absolute misery ! The ex pat community there have explained to the locals that the English particularly hate being hassled and would be more like to buy if left alone but they just can't help themselves. Nothing is priced either (apart from in the supermarkets) so you have to haggle for everything from a T-shirt to gold. For that reason we also avoided the Saturday market although I love markets and will spend hours browsing and buying given the peace and the time. We found Nazar's typically Turkish reastaurant well worth a visit - you get bread and garlic butter free so don't have a starter (most reastaurants offer this) and the meals are plentiful and cheap. The Villa on the beach front and Hasan's just behind the mosque were superb for something a bit more special - their steaks are excellent. Erdem runs Nirvana's bar upstairs on the town square - it tends to cater for the ex pats and locals really but it's a must if you want a picture of the sunset and Erdem loves chatting to the English. Scotty's in bar street is run by Irene and Mustafa and you'll get a great welcome there as well as a lovely meze night from time to time. Staff in the bars in bar street tend to hassle quite a lot but Scotty's do not nor does Paddy's next door. We went to Gomosluk which is a tiny little beach front village 20 minutes by dolmus. You can walk across to Rabbit Island from here though don't be fooled by the locals who tell you there's very many things of interest there - there are 4 rabbits (might be more when you go if they are 'breeders') and although we looked for the wishing tree we couldn't find it. But the paddle across is lovely and cool but wear enclosed beach shoes if you have them cos it's quite rocky underfoot. We also went into Bodrum and spent a couple of hours wandering around the castle, well worth a visit but take water as there's little shade and there are deep steps everywhere so not for anyone with dodgy knees ! All in all we have a very pleasant two weeks but will probably visit another resort next year.
