Went end of September 2006. Absolutly fab.

Would recommend this hotel to any family looking for somewhere close enough to shops etc, but not to close to the main areas of hustle and bustle.

Rooms lovely and clean, food excellent ( breakfast ) entertainment only what you would expect and really friendly staff.

We loved it so much we are off to this hotel again next week 12/06/07.

Will post a report again when we come back.

Food was ok but a bit boring after a while. They can't cook a decent sausage.

Rooms cleaned Ok as long as you didn't look under the beds.

The sun-bed stampede that everyone comments on really was farcical. We never took part in it but had no problem getting sun beds in decent locations.

Just arrived back home after a great holiday in Salou with a big thankyou to the Golden Avenida who looked after us very well.

After a couple of hours you can tell that this aparthotel is run by very experienced staff as everything seems to run very smoothly.C

lean rooms which slept 2 adults and 2 kids.Staff were always smiling and they all looked like they enjoyed their work.A special mention must go to Boris and the reception team who were a mine of local info and tips and nothing was any bother for them. We booked trips via reception and saved a considerable amount on the Thomson trips that the reps try to sell you at the welcome meeting.

Food is typical 3 star Spanish hotel buffet style but the quality was good and there was a varied selection of casseroles/roast joints etc and plenty of salads and veggie options (the Asian themed evening was especially good)as we pre-booked the half board package with Portland it worked out at

This is the first time we have ever used Thompson Superfamily - we have 3 kids - 5, 3 & 22mts, so having the creche and the tots was great, my little one used the creche most days for 2hrs (15Euros) and loved it, she was very well looked after by the Thompsons girls. My older 2 used the tots about 4 times and had fun, but enjoyed the pool too much to drag them away...!!!

It was funny to watch from our balcony every morning at 9am people running to get their sunbeds!!! We would watch everyone rushing, then my husband would wonder down at around 9.15 and get sunbeds with no problem. Thompson had a sign up saying they would remove unattended towels on sunbeds by 10.15am, but never did!!

The hotel itself was good - kids loved the pool (kids pool) and slope into main pool.

The rooms were ok - need updating - we had a one bedroom appt on the 3rd floor over looking the pool area (emailed hotel to request this), kids had the room (youngest in cot) and we had the sofa bed, which was the most uncomfortble bed I have ever slept on - we both ended up with very bad backs!!!! I think a 2 bed apartment would have been better...it was a bit small for the 5 of us, but ok. It was very noisy at night due to the entertainment going on until 12 at night...then the kids running through the corridor at night!!! Too noisey for my liking!!!

We were self-catering, but used the restaurant for b'fast some mornings which was good, plenty of choice...we also ate in some evenings and again food ok.
The restaurant is only open for b'fast and dinner so for lunch there was the pool bar, but the food choice was very poor, so we mainly used it for drinks and ice-creams and made s'wich for lunch.

The hotel staff are all very good and friendly and all speak good English (however I speak Spainsh, so enjoyed chatting to them all).

The entertainment is mainly done by the Thompson reps, the kids loved them!!!! Adults not sure!!! But they kept the kids happy and that was fine for us...my little boy loved Tall Paul and Krazy Kate!!!!

Salou is a dump!!!! It is dirty, it smells and is full of tacky shops and restaurants selling English food - don't know about anyone else, but when I am on holiday I like to experience the culture of the country I am in....!!!!

The beach was so full that you could not move!!!
Could not relax with 3 kids at the beach in case they got lost....however 10/15 min taxi trip to Cambrils and you are in a different place, clean, alot more Spanish, lovely beach to relax, nice shops to look around - just lovely, I would stay in Cambrils...

I would not go back to the Avenida, because of Salou, if they could pick the hotel up and move it to Cambrils it would be alot better!!!!

We booked this Superfamily hotel through recommendation and were not disappointed. The hotel was very clean, and family friendly. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was a lovely size,a nd cleaned every day with fresh towels daily. This was our 3rd visit to Salou, so we knew what to expect. Plenty of places to visit, Port Aventura, Aquopolis, and Barcelona to name but a few.

The Thomson reps worked very hard to keep every one entertained. Krazy Kate and Tall Paul are born entertainers! Also the kids clubs were second to none, the Reps there were brilliant with the kids, and also mingled with the parents when off-duty.

All in all, had a great holiday and would visit this hotel again in the future.

This was our 3rd year at the Avenida and what a change. The first year Thomson were not the only holiday company in the hotel. But last year they were given the whole hotel. It's meant to be a Superfamily hotel. But how does it feel for an older couple no children to arrive at the hotel and find it over run with kids. Also allowing teenagers to go to the hotel and wake up their corridors at 5am when they stagger in from the clubs.

The hotel is a lovely hotel which is very clean. The reception staff are there at all times and are very helpful for local advice such as shopping, phoning taxi's for you and telling you easy ways to get places as well as dealing with any problems in your apartment, selling you stamps, dealing with towel hire and also your safe keys. You could not ask for better reception staff.

The restaurant has the lovely Ana and her staff to serve you. The food is buffet style. They often have theme nights where you get authentic food which personally I think is better than the usual food as it's a bit too British for my liking. The breakfasts, is full English, continental, cereals and fruit and yoghurts. Evening meals cannot be complete without sampling the Avenida chef's variety of puddings. Take adjustable waistbands as the puddings are to die for. The children have their own buffet at their level but parental support is needed. There's not many cooked vegetables and what there are isn't off great quality but their salad bar is plentiful and very tasty. We could only get self catering this year but bought our half board for 288

Just back from Avenida aparthotel and overall we all did enjoy the holiday. Kids enjoyed the food with good selection, except the youngest who is fussy and would only really eat the food he recognised ie chips, bananas and rolls.

The puddings are great and plenty of fresh fruit.

Hotel itself is lovely and clean towels each day was appreciated. We had plenty of space in our room with the kids having their own wardrobe in the livingroom. Normally as a family of 5 you are crammed into rooms, but not so on this occasion.

Hotel reception staff the most helpful and to be honest I used them the most to make enquiries.

Entertainment in the hotel - dire. On two seperate nights though there was acrobatic shows it was fairly good but once you've seen it in portaventura it pales into significance.

Reps show - wouldn't waste my time seeing again. Crazy Kate and Tall paul were seen the most but how many times did it need mentioned that crazy kate could pick and choose where she goes, because she is in the top 6 thomson entertainment reps!

The self catering apts are basic but have the usual 4 ring hob, kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge. The air con is a bonus but is better in the bedroom.

On the second day after visiting the beach we spilt some sand from a bucket, we were in a hurry to go to a park and left it. When we returned that evening the cleaners had been in but the sand was still there, some on the bench and some on the floor, out of curiosity we left it and until the minute we left after 14 nights it was still there. Also after about 8 days we had to request clean bedding as it had not been changed, maybe this was our fault for making the beds in the mornings???

Located about 20 min walk from Salou beach(taking account kids and pushchair)I wasn't so bothered about the walk however the street we had to walk down at the side of the hotel was usually stinking of puke and/or urine and always the often overflowing bins. Add all this to scattered piles of dog muck the odd broken bottle and kebab wrapper and it makes for a nice morning stroll down to the beach or the main street where most or the bars and restaurants are located. On a night if you have been on the main street you will walk past lots of P.R. staff from bars who aren't too much trouble but with a number of club on the street I did not like walking with my kids.

Hotel staff were helpful and friendly.

Entertainment was reasonable but better when outside performers were on, but not enough to keep you going for a fortnight if you like to stay in the hotel which I must admit is not what I normally do anyway.

I stayed at the Golden Avenida for a fortnight from 12-26 July 2006, with my wife and 5 year old daughter.
I had heard mixed reviews regarding the resort, but being open minded and having a 5 year old, wanted a holiday with a mixture of activity. Therefore we chose this Hotel in Salou, with a view to travelling around and visiting Port Aventura.

I can honestly say I have never done so much exercise! You have to be in the 'sunbed' queue for 8:00am (doors open at 9:00am), if you want to ensure a visible position around the pool, where you can see your children. Get ready for the stampede, people are literally jumping from their balconies to queue jump.Be equipped - good trainers, and a martial arts background would be of an advantage, oh and of course, look good you'll be on video, from all the spectators on the balconies.

We hired a car during our stay, which got vandalised twice, in the surrounding streets of the hotel, so we ended up paying 10 euros per evening to park in the hotel. Ensure you book the extra car insurance in the resort, if you have booked your car in the UK!
We went on the train to Barcelona, as I thought the Barcelona excursion was quite expensive and the return train fare is only 10 euros, enabling you to stay all day - beware of pickpockets. I put my money in my shoe! Also, beware of the high prices on La Ramblas.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Tots Club and Super Discos supervised by the Thompson Reps. Credit to these guys they kept the kids entertained.

Like many others I had being on the internet before my hols and read constantly about 'Israel'. How disappointed I was when non of the evening entertainment seemed to live up to the reports I had previously read.

I never once saw the pool being cleaned whilst we were there, and needless to say my daughter has come home with severe impetigo!

The food in the restaraunt was quite good, with a good variety of meats, salads, and a delightful desert choice.

All the reception staff were most helpful, and my daughter loved her daily chats with Anna in the restaraunt.

This was our 3rd year at the Avenida.

All rooms in the hotel have a kitchenette whether you are half board or self catering. We have been self catering and half board in the past, but by far the best option is to go self catering and buy some meal tickets from the hotel itself. This gives you the flexibility to eat out if you want to or to eat in the convenience of the hotel.

It also works out slightly cheaper to buy your meals there rather than booking half board. 6 days at half board costs 80 Euros (approx
