Room 2333 in Catalina buiding is quiet and looks over beach, you have to look through the trees but you can see and hear the sea. Pool rooms are horrendously noisy. Quiet pool rooms are away from main building over the car park.

Beach and sea ok, quite rough but always clean. Plenty of shops within walking distance. Nighlife mainly at the hotel.

The resort we stayed in was out of this world, if a tropical destination is what you want then this is the place to come. The beach was amazing, golden sands, clear waters and palm trees all along the lengthy beach, on the beach we also had an all inclusive beach bar which also served light snacks too. We had access to all water sport activities such as windsurfing all-inclusive.
There is a shopping centre straight across from where we stayed which has a pizza hut and cheap!
I would recommend a visit to ocean world we swam with dolphins there it really is a day to remember and reasonably priced too! Wish I was still there!

Everywhere in the resort public areas is beautifully kept and the shopping centre (the Mall) is well stocked.
Entertainment is hotel based and hotel-hopping is not encouraged (quite the opposite). There are a couple of casinos with free entrance.
The beach is a long horseshoe shape, reasonably deep with pine trees backing it. The sea shelves gently but does have coral in it so watch where you put your feet.
Loads of (licensed) beach sellers, none of whom bother you if you don't show an interest in what they're selling.

The resort is beautiful although when you leave it the poverty is obvious.

Whale watching is a must and so is the outback safari, do the scuba diving course it was fun! Well that's what the instructor keeps telling you! but it was a great 3 days diving.

Beach staff very unhelpful,dustbins always full and surrounding areas litter strewn,beach is raked about 2pm.
You can watch them cook your steak while visiting the toilet as the walls are barely head height with no ceilings(nice and hygenic)

The complex was very clean, the cleaners worked very long days, most of them worked a 12 hour day, for very little money, make sure you give them a good tip as they really rely on them.
The beach was clean, although the sand is not white like some of the islands. The beach sellers are a pain, after a while i just pretented to be asleep, so they didnt bother you, the other thing to look out for is the trip sellers, many of them are fake, spoke to a few people that bought bogus trip tickets.

Had a great time at this hotel, 1 min walk from the beach. The food in the hotel was fab. 4 restaurants to choice from but the entertainment was not that good day or night. Very very clean hotel staff where great.

Playa Dorada was a lovely resort of 14 hotels with a golf course in the middle, the resort area was very safe with guards patrolling the main entrance and guards at each hotel. There was a Plaza Shopping Mall which had a mixture of shops, jewellers, tabacco shops, shoe shops, gift shops etc, Hemingways pub and a Pizza Hut. There are a couple of Casino's you can go to as part of the all inclusive package at your hotel, this allows you free entry and free drink at the Casino.

Other than an over priced, very basic Plaza where you constantly get hounded to go on excursions there was nothing whatsoever in the resort.
For the beach I would give 1 out of 10.
I have travelled to most Caribbean islands and this one has by far the worst beaches.
