Room 2333 in Catalina buiding is quiet and looks over beach, you have to look through the trees but you can see and hear the sea. Pool rooms are horrendously noisy. Quiet pool rooms are away from main building over the car park.

I can say the beach area was good and clean and safe. The beach bar was good and the grill served good food much better than hotel.
Most people went to the grillbar for lunch. I would not recommend this hotel and will never be visiting it again and this opinion comes from many british guests I spoke to.

The beach was clean and the bar area was to no complaints. The entertainment was rubbish to be blunt.

The resort is very safe guards all at check point.
The shopping plaza is easy to walk to and the little bar at the back of the ground floor is brilliant, all the football is on live!

The area in and around puerto plata resort is a gated community with armed security on the gates, the plaza area has no real entertainment in the evenuings apart from two small bars and one larger bar called Hemingways,as you all have to wear different coulored bands on your wrists indicating which hotel you are staying in access (for security reasons) is not possible to the other hotels,so apart from the plaza there is no where to go in the evenings.
I would say if you want to stay in your hotel 24/7 this is the place for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the beach it was really hard to relax as beach traders were always trying to get you to buy wooden crafts, fake watches,soft toys etc.Spent most of the time around the pool which was ok we went into the main resort in a taxi with a guide which was worth the money as there were a number of beggers and street traders.

The beach at the Gran Ventana is to die for. Shallow, safe, excellent for snorkeling and only 10 foot from the beach.
Go early with banannas and bread to feed the fish you will be amazed.

Playa Dorado is very plains and simply. A shopping centre with lots fo the same shops and a couple of ok pubs and restureant. Plus Pizza Hut of course! Lots of hotels some with Casinos that all can use. A very nice golf course. Still, Cancun it is not!

Resort ok but nothing much to do. Beach a bit sea-weedy, but ok in parts. Didn't feel safe to walk in resort alone due to being pestered by horse and trap men and locals selling trips and hair plaiting etc...

Beach standard: All aspects of the beach were far from up to expectations eg: all sun beds we looked at were broken, beach was dirty and very poorly maintained.
